1.6 million visitors flock to Cancun for Dia de Muertos

Cancun and the Riviera Maya are once again the heart of vibrant Mexico Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos) celebrations, with tourism officials present nearby 1.6 million hotel bookings between October 27 and November 2. The number represents a 2.3% increase compared to last year, confirming the region’s continued appeal as one of Mexico’s top cultural and travel destinations.

This is what the Mexican Minister of Tourism says. 73% of travelers are domestic touristswhile 27% are international visitorsdrawn by the country’s rich cultural traditions and its unique way of honoring life and death. “The Day of the Dead is a celebration full of color and joy where we honor life through our traditions,” said Tourism Minister Josefina Rodríguez Zamora.

In Quintana Roo the festivities get a special local touch Janal Pixanthe Mayan version of the Day of the Dead. In Cancun, the city will host the “Puerto de los Suspiros” Cultural show (Port of Sighs) in Puerto Juárez from October 30 to November 2. Meanwhile Playa del Carmen will hold Janal Pixan events on Plaza 28 de Julio from October 31 to November 3.

With packed hotels, colorful altars and festive parades, the Riviera Maya is once again ready to celebrate one of Mexico’s most iconic and meaningful traditions in grand style.
