Unleash your inner aviation enthusiast at the Glenn L. Martin Aviation Museum. These underrated sites promise unique experiences that capture the essence of Maryland’s diverse culture, history, and natural beauty.

Lawyer’s Farm, Thurmont

Lawyer’s Farm in Thurmont, Maryland, produces amazing corn kernels and pumpkins, but also houses a number of giant robots resembling Transformers, some of which greet visitors at the entrance. The farm was originally founded by Jan Lawyer and is now run and managed by his children. Visitors can take guided tours of the farm and enjoy the interesting robots as well as the beautiful corn mazes and homemade pumpkin cannons.

Ladew Topiary Gardens, Monkton

Ladew Topiary Gardens in Monkton, Maryland, considered one of the most impressive gardens of its kind in the United States, was painstakingly created in the 1930s by Harvey S. Ladew, a wealthy hunter at the time.

Ladew was particularly fascinated by the history of fox hunting and was influenced by English culture and design. As a result, he set aside a portion of the garden to recreate a fox hunt using shrubs and made sure the lawn bordered the nearby hunting ground.

Boordy Vineyards

Boordy’s was the first industrial winery in Maryland, founded by Philip and Jocelyn Wagner in Baltimore in 1945. You’re sure to find something you like here, whether you’re craving a red wine, a white wine, or something in between!

George Peabody Library, Baltimore

The George Peabody Library at the Peabody Conservatory of Music offers a completely unique and, to say the least, colossal experience. The library was built in 1878 at the direction of George Peabody with the intention of serving the citizens of Baltimore. The Peabody Institute, one of the world’s leading music institutions, continues to produce some of the world’s finest musicians, composers and music educators.

Cylburn Arboretum

A historic mansion, beautiful gardens and walking trails – you’ll find it all on this 200-acre property! The trails, gardens, etc. are open to the public. Walking through this area in the city, you can feel like you are in the wilderness!

Cunningham Falls

So we advise you to follow the waterfalls. The trails and playgrounds at Cunningham Falls in Frederick County are fantastic places to spend time outdoors. It is Maryland’s largest waterfall and is tucked away in Cunningham Falls State Park. After your climb, cool off at the park’s William Houck Area, which features a large lake for swimming and plenty of sand for lounging in the sun.

The Glenn L. Martin Aviation Museum should be on your list if you are interested in Maryland’s rich aviation heritage. The museum prepares a number of special events in addition to its regular exhibits. You should visit the museum’s website before making travel arrangements.
