New information from the Tourism Corporation of Bonaire shows that tourism on this Dutch Caribbean island continues to grow faster than before the pandemic.

In July, the island counted 14,133, overnight tourists, 8% more than Bonaire’s 13,000 visitors during the same period in 2019.

That demonstrates what officials described as Bonaire’s “continuous balanced growth and attractiveness as a prime travel destination.”

The island received widespread attention throughout the month of June as a result of Bonaire Rum Week and the brand-new Bonaire Yoga and Wellness Festival.

With 48 percent of all visitors coming from the Netherlands, Dutch travelers continue to dominate island arrivals. From the U.S. came 3,488 people, or about 25 percent of the total.

This included a significant increase in first-time visitors to the island, which accounted for approximately 43% of all arrivals for the month.

In addition, 16,442 cruise passengers came to Bonaire in July on four different cruise lines.

Why you should visit Bonaire

Certainly, there are five compelling reasons to consider a trip to the Dutch Caribbean island of Bonaire:

  • Breathtaking underwater world: Bonaire is known as a diver’s paradise with crystal clear waters, vibrant coral reefs and a diverse underwater world. Snorkelers and divers can explore pristine underwater ecosystems teeming with colorful fish, turtles and other marine life.
  • Pristine Nature and Wildlife: Bonaire is committed to conservation and offers visitors the opportunity to experience unspoiled natural beauty. The island boasts protected mangroves, various bird species, and flamingo sanctuaries that provide ample opportunities for ecotourism and birdwatching.
  • Water activities abound: In addition to scuba diving, Bonaire offers a range of water activities including windsurfing, kiteboarding, kayaking and sailing. The calm waters and steady trade winds make Bonaire an ideal destination for those seeking an adventure on the water.
  • Laid-Back Atmosphere: Bonaire exudes a calm and relaxed atmosphere that is perfect for relaxing and unwinding. The small population and limited development contribute to a sense of authenticity and provide an escape from the hectic tourist crowds.
  • Cultural Fusion: Bonaire’s unique blend of Dutch and Caribbean culture is reflected in its architecture, cuisine and local traditions. Exploring the charming towns, enjoying local delicacies and interacting with the friendly locals offer a culturally enriching experience.
