Thursday night, Taylor Swift brought her record-breaking Eras tour to Mexico City — and the hit-packed show marked the beginning of a new opening act for singer Sabrina Carpenter. (Paramore, Phoebe Bridgers, and Beabadoobee have all opened for Swift as well.) “The first night felt unlike any crowd I’ve ever played to,” says Carpenter. “It was magical.” With one more show scheduled at CDMX tonight, Carpenter will continue to serve as Swift’s opening act through November, with dates in Argentina and Brazil. “It’s a great privilege,” says Carpenter. “Going on tour with someone I love, who inspires me immensely, and who also has the friendliest and most welcoming fan base ever – I feel so lucky to be part of such an indelible tour.”
Of course, preparing for such an experience was no easy feat. But thankfully, Carpenter has been in serious training mode for well over a year. “I’ve been dreaming about this for a while, and luckily I just got off a year-long tour of my own, so I felt like that helped me prepare,” says Carpenter. Still, the Eras tour marks a whole new setlist and stage atmosphere for the singer, explaining that she wanted to put all her effort into performing. “I wanted to bring a lot of energy since I’m six feet tall and there are a lot of people,” Carpenter jokes. “So my band and I made it a really fun show.”
