Has your skin been looking very dull and tired lately? Is your usual skincare routine not doing what it should?
You probably need a good face mask as an extra boost to give your skin the ‘boost’ it needs and deserves! But did you know that different face packs address different skin concerns?
Read on below to learn more about which face masks to use and when to use them.
Clay face masks
This is probably one of the first things that comes to mind when you think of a face mask – and for good reason! If one of the best-selling beauty products On the market, clay face masks are a great all-purpose mask regardless of skin type – even for dry skin.
What is it good for?
You may know that clay masks target oily skin to remove excess oil and shine, but did you know that it’s a great mask to deeply cleanse and purify your pores?
With the daily hustle and bustle of a busy routine, it is normal for your pores to absorb various impurities from the environment. So a weekly cleanse with a deep-treating clay mask can be just right to ensure that your skin is not only clean on the surface, but also underneath.
Who can use it?
As we mentioned earlier, you might think that clay masks are only suitable for oily skin, but that is not the case. All skin types can use clay face masks, because clay is not the only ingredient in clay masks!
A blend of soothing ingredients like lavender or a nourishing oil will keep your skin from feeling too dry or stripped, making it a perfect mid-week booster.
Remember, you don’t have to use this all over your face either. The most common place where people get blackheads sits on the nose or around the T-Zone, so it’s worth paying extra attention to that area. We recommend treating that area with a clay mask and using a different mask for the rest of your face.
Exfoliating masks
Another great choice of masks, exfoliating masks may seem intimidating at first due to the crystals contained within, but with the right technique, it can leave your skin feeling supple and smooth no matter the season or weather.
What is it good for?
Somewhat similar to clay masks, one of the properties of exfoliating masks is that you deep cleanse once or twice a week to buff away any buildup of dead skin cells that may have accumulated on your face.
Depending on your environment, the buildup of dead skin cells may be more or less of a problem for you. Still, exfoliating should be at least a weekly part of your skincare routine.
Similar to a body scrub, an exfoliating mask is made specifically for the face, meaning the crystals aren’t super harsh or abrasive, making it gentle and kind to your skin. An exfoliating mask is sure to catch the rough patches on your face that your daily cleanser may not be able to remove.
Who can use it?
While we recommend treating specific areas of your face with a clay mask, exfoliating masks are an excellent full-face exfoliator, leaving any skin type feeling nourished and refreshed.
Of course, the best exfoliating masks also contain ingredients like grape seed oil or even plum seed to follow up with the exfoliation and make sure your skin feels hydrated and plumped, leaving a glowing finish.
Deep moisturizing masks
Another type of mask that we can’t recommend enough for everyone to have in their collection is deeply hydrating masks. An easy mistake is to believe that only dry skin types need moisturizing masks to compensate, but we all need hydration regardless of our skin type.
What is it good for?
As the name suggests, deep moisturizing masks are very helpful in restoring moisture to our skin, making it feel plump and supple again.
Our skin naturally produces hyaluronic acid, but as with other skin substances, this production decreases over time. It’s important to make sure your skin is adequately hydrated, even if you have oily skin. Keeping your skin hydrated helps maintain the elasticity and water absorption of your skin.
Many people who think they have oily skin are more prone to dry skin, so their skin compensates by overproducing sebum. Hydrating our skin at the right level can help with oil production in the long run.
Who can use it?
All skin types can use this wonderfully soothing mask: dry, combination and even oily. Best of all, this is a perfect overnight mask to use, infusing your skin with all the incredible ingredients of hydrating masks like aloe vera, rose water, and even cucumber extract while you sleep.
These are so gentle on the skin that you can use them a few times a week, as a moisturizer during the day or as an overnight mask at night.
Which one will you add to your collection?
We’ve talked about three different mask types that provide suppleness, radiance and hydration, just to name a few of the fantastic benefits.
A rigorous daily skincare routine is a great way to take care of your skin, but a weekly face mask can do wonders for you in the long run. Why not treat and pamper yourself as you deserve?
