A recent trip to the South of France influenced the laissez-faire feel in Reem Acra’s latest collection. She took her models to her large estate in New Jersey and photographed her lookbook in a small corner of the house, where she displays a collection of vintage bags collected during her years of travel. Acra, who describes the collection as “casual glamour,” had barefoot models strut around in feathers, sequins, and rosette-covered trains to embody the idea of entertaining at home. “Part of how I live is reflected in this collection,” said Acra. “There’s a touch of the fifties to it, a touch of the thirties, a touch of now, but it’s all about the relaxed vibe.”
In keeping with this relaxed mindset, Acra made sure all looks were customizable. Feather detailing on dresses – which she describes as ‘the definition of true glamour’ – and capes are all removable, allowing the customer to dress up the look however they see fit. Sustainability also played an influential role in her collection. The pashminas used to embellish her elegant gowns were made from leftover silk and tulle from elsewhere in the collection.
