Evening wear is many things – polished, elegant and regal for sure – except the words wild And pleasure may not immediately come to mind. But this week’s best-dressed stars tried to subvert formal evening wear by putting unexpected twists on the classic cocktail or floor-length dress. The end result? A vibrant assortment with cone bras, sheer skirts or all-over denim. Gowns have gone wild!
Singer Lily Allen, for example, stepped out in London in Richard Quinn’s white column dress with a conical bra – very Madonna. Zendaya made an equally big statement for her birthday Instagram post: The Euphoria the star posed in Collina Strada’s printed skirt and bolero, complete with a tiny sequin bra top. Also in a sexy two-piece, Diane Kruger was at one visions premiere in Paris. Her scorching hot Alessandra Rich bra top and skirt felt fresh and fun, with a black blazer slung over her shoulders for good measure.
Pure dressing also had a moment this week. At an H&M event in California, Elle Fanning wore the brand’s sheer camisole with a classic black suit. In Venice to attend the DVF Awards, Amal Clooney donned a vintage John Galliano-era slip dress with a gauzy hemline. (She Loves Dior archive.) Venice’s wildest moment, however, goes to Emma Corrin: the actor dared to wear Miu Miu’s pantless catwalk look from fall 2023, complete with a green cardigan with the matching briefs. It’s an unexpected look that, surprisingly, reads as polished. This was clearly the fashion MO of A-listers this week.
