ICYMI: Yesterday was Beyoncé’s birthday, so we actually got two national holidays for the price of one. But Bey herself was never one to take a day off and spent her 42nd birthday performing another sold-out show on her. Renaissance World tour at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
While the tour has produced an array of incredible, bespoke looks – from Pharrell’s first custom for Louis Vuitton to Marc Jacobs’ Kiki boots – no one expected anything but the best from the Virgo Queen on her special day. So Beyoncé called in the big guns and replaced Donatella Versace to create a look for her Sept. 4 performance. The Italian designer delivered a presentation and covered Bey and her dancers in Atelier Versace. “It’s glamorous, irreverent and full of powerful attitude,” Versace said Fashion. “Congratulations Beyonce – thank you for celebrating your Virgo Groove in Versace. You are always my queen! 💜”

The blue and yellow mini dress was painstakingly crafted over the course of 600 hours by three members of the Atelier. Featuring the brand’s signature Barocco pattern on mesh-printed metal and gold Medusa ’95 decals on the shoulder straps. “When Beyoncé called to design a look for her for the Renaissance World Tour, I knew I had to use our Barocco print and metallic mesh. Versace icons for the iconic Queen B,” says Versace. The dress is worn over a long-sleeved mesh bodysuit in the same pattern, with degraded crystal embroidery detailing around the neckline. To top it off, Beyoncé wore a pair of over-the-knee boots and a matching wide-brimmed hat.
But of course it wouldn’t be A Renaissance show without outfit changes. In addition to her hand-printed Loewe bodysuit—a must-have on tour worn during her performance with Diana Ross—and her buzzing Mugler bee costume, Beyoncé also wore a glittery bodysuit with fringed, rhinestone-trimmed boots, sparkling sunglasses and, appropriately, a birthday hat. She also wore a floor-length pink dress complete with large ostrich feather sleeves and rosettes on the bust. At the end of the show, wearing a silver sequined bodysuit, knee-high boots and a cape from Valentino, her legion of dancers surprised her with flowers and a cupcake, which she gleefully blew out on stage.
