It becomes the favorite time of the year for some travelers. The weather is cooler, the air is fresh and Pumpkin Spice Lattes are taking over your favorite cafes.
As summer draws to a close, it’s time to start looking for your next trip. Some of us choose to continue the adventure and fly to Europe, while others prefer to stay closer to home.
Both are great choices, and it really depends on what you’re looking for in a getaway. To give you an idea: Expedia recently released a program Autumn travel forecast with the most popular destinations in the US this fall.
The data was obtained by reviewing travelers’ bookings for vacation rentals at VRBO until the end of October.
Some places may surprise you, and others may already be on your fall travel wish list.

There are scenic hiking trails on the outskirts of town near the beautiful, peaceful Blue Ridge Lake. If you’re a wine lover, the Serenberry Vineyards are a great place to spend the day, where visitors love the “vibe of the great outdoors.”

May 5 – Cape May, New Jersey
You won’t find festive fist pumpers here. This charming town on the southern tip of the Cape May Peninsula is a great escape to enjoy all that fall has to offer.
The small town offers beautiful views of the New Jersey coast and historic Victorian-style homes.
Walking around Cape May will immerse you in the town’s charm, and autumn is arguably the best time to visit. The weather fluctuates between the 50’s and mid 70’s, perfect for enjoying your Pumpkin Spice Latte and all the fall colors.
The Washington Street Mall and Morey’s Pier are the perfect places to explore the city in cold weather.
4 – Bar Harbor, Maine
Maine is one of the most underrated states in the country, but those who come here are never disappointed.
This quaint coastal town northeast of Portland is a gem perfect for exploring in the fall. This city can be a destination worth visiting in its own right, but it also serves as a gateway to the beautiful Acadia National Park.
Whether you want to enjoy the seaside cafes, treat yourself to fresh lobster, or explore Acadia’s beautiful fall colors, you can’t go wrong with a visit to Bar Harbor.
3 – Asheville, North Carolina
This increasingly popular, artsy town west of Charlotte is absolutely stunning in the fall. Travelers can enjoy the art scene and beautiful architecture all year round, but in the fall the mountains come alive with color.
This region of North Carolina is one of the best for taking the back roads and immersing yourself in the endless trees with red, orange and golden leaves.
2 – Cape Cod, Mass
Cape Cod can be packed with tourists in the summer months, so many travelers can’t wait to visit in the fall.
There are crowds, cheaper lodging and the same beautiful beaches. But these aren’t the only draws to Cape Cod in the fall.
For a charming beach town, you may be surprised by the fall atmosphere of this place. There are a number of scenic spots with dazzling fall foliage, and the weather is just what fall travelers are looking for.
Expect temperatures in the 50s to 70s through November.
1 – Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, Tenn
The most popular fall destination is the mountain town of Gatlinburg, along with nearby Pigeon Forge.
This dynamic duo offers picturesque, rustic fall colors in the Smoky Mountains. Between the two cities, there are plenty of ways to have a good time during the fall season.
