Francisco Cancino has turned a page. The designer left behind the verses and metaphors that inspired him in recent seasons to focus on historical and anthropological research that will move his brand forward. Cancino explained that his next collections will focus around four key moments in Mexico City’s history, from its founding to the present. This new creative experiment will launch in the spring of 2024, with a collection entitled The First Mexicans, which sought to answer questions about how the first people who experienced the fusion of cosmogonies, techniques, materials and traditions during the Spanish conquest dressed .
The brand’s flagship materials: linen, cotton, silk, wool and leather, were shown in bright primary colours. Cancino’s signature ruffled blouses, paired with high-waisted wide trousers, gave life to contemporary looks, but with a distinctly Mexican identity. It was further accentuated by a collaboration with milliner Gladys Tamez, whose designs have been worn by celebrities like Taylor Swift and Shakira. It was a mix of the new and the familiar in perfect harmony.
Cancino has embarked on an exciting process of research and search for new ideas. We can only wait to see how his world will develop in the coming seasons.
