As more and more people embrace the work-from-anywhere lifestyle, it’s clear that digital nomadism is a trend here to stay.
While there is an ever-growing list of digital nomad visas available to countries around the world, there are some places that still get high marks for remote workers for a variety of reasons.
a new study from ExpressVPN has listed the best locations in the world for digital nomads, taking into account criteria such as visa requirements, security, cost of living and quality of life.
The top candidates all offer a different way of life for the remote worker; from beaches to cities, there is something for everyone in these 5 locations.
Here’s why these 5 destinations are among the best for digital nomads right now:
Tallinn, Estonia
The Baltic region of Europe has been quietly gaining popularity with digital nomads lately, with countries like Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania being increasingly seen as great places to settle.
Estonia’s cozy capital, Tallinn, is an example of a city that has long been underappreciated by travelers, but is starting to gain more attention among those who work remotely.
Tallinn is safe, has great infrastructure, modern amenities, a growing digital nomad community and a relatively cheap cost of living. Although winters can be cold, there are plenty of cozy cafes where you can pop in and warm up with a cup of coffee while you work.

Bangalore, India
Often referred to as India’s version of Silicon Valley, this city is a great place for people working in the tech industry. Bangalore also scores points for its weather, with a milder climate than many other Indian locations, making it a comfortable place to base yourself for a while.
The expat community in Bangalore is growing and over time more and more cafes, co-working spaces, restaurants and accommodation options are being added.
One thing to note is that the internet is known to be very fast and connection is never an issue, allowing digital nomads to stay productive.

Chiang Mai, Thailand
Ask anyone who has worked remotely in recent years what one of Asia’s most popular choices is for digital nomads, and you’ll likely hear Chiang Mai’s answer over and over again.
Thailand’s northern city is hidden in the hills and is now full of cafes, temples and co-working spaces.
Chiang Mai has great WiFi, modern amenities and endless places to eat and drink, with a much more relaxed atmosphere than bustling Bangkok. Chiang Mai may be far from Thailand’s iconic beaches, but it offers remote workers the chance to settle down and explore the country from a different perspective.

Madeira, Portugal
The country of Portugal has seen tremendous growth in tourism recently, and hotspots such as Lisbon, Porto and the Algarve have become popular spots for tourists and digital nomads alike. Far from the mainland, however, another great option awaits you, full of natural beauty, unique towns, epic views and great weather.
The Portuguese island of Madeira is located about 900 kilometers offshore and digital nomads love it for its unique views, island lifestyle and co-working scene.
Traveling to and from Madeira is cheap and easy, with many flights a day to the mainland, so if you want to escape the island lifestyle and head to a big city, it’s easy enough.

Bali, Indonesia
Bali, which can be considered the original hotspot for digital nomads, has been luring remote workers for a while now and shows no signs of slowing down.
While there is much debate about the impact of the tourism boom here and its effect on traditional culture, there is no denying that this is the epicenter of the digital nomad scene today.
It is the ideal place to chop wood from a jungle balcony or a beach cafe. Bali’s popularity among digital nomads is due to its beauty, its people, its beaches, good WiFi and safety, and many other reasons.
