The Atlanta Botanical Garden is an oasis of natural beauty and tranquility in bustling Midtown Atlanta. Its exquisite plant collections and floral displays make it a local and national treasure.
The garden opened in 1976 and is a… American Public Garden Association member. It has 30 hectares of outdoor gardens, an award-winning children’s garden, a Canopy Walk and a Skyline Garden.
Another important part is the Fuqua Conservatory, which has 16,000 square meters dedicated to tropical plants worldwide.
One of the most popular departments of the conservatory is the Orchids Display House. It has a beautiful collection of orchids in different colors, sizes and scents.
The garden is host events and exhibitions daily. For example, there is regular Storybook Time for young children and, in the fall, a Pumpkin-Carving Festival.
It also provides a beautiful setting for private events all year round. Events include weddings, corporate meetings, seminars and other social and corporate events.
An example event is the Outdoor Kitchen, ideal for team builders. It teaches the supervisors how to cook with fresh fruit, herbs and vegetables.
Adults and children can take lessons all year round. Adult classes include Tai Chi and tree/shrub pruning.
Although the Garden is almost fifty years old, it will continue to expand and grow. There are plans to expand the garden along Piedmont Avenue by 25%.
The expansion places the garden next to the Atlanta Beltline. It would be the city’s first cultural institution directly accessible from the Beltline.
Plans include a new visitors centre, water features and year-round display gardens and displays. One design proposal includes a large topiary sculpture from Phoenix, representing the city’s resilience.
The potential completion target for the expansion would be 2026. The aim is to complete it in time for the Garden’s 50th anniversary and Atlanta’s 2026 FIFA World Cup hosting.
