Essential travel tips for visitors to Greece

You can avoid becoming a victim of petty crime by not looking obviously like a tourist.

  • Make sure your personal belongings are within your sight and don’t put your wallet, money or phone in your back pocket.
  • Be extra careful during pickpocketing incidents, especially in major cities.
  • Be vigilant for possible pickpockets when using public transport. It is advisable to keep a close eye on your valuables while waiting at locations such as airports, cruise terminals, major bus and train stations and the port of Piraeus.
  • Spread your cash and cards on your person and consider using a hidden money belt under your clothing. Anti-theft travel clothing with hidden pockets to store valuables is also an effective option.
  • Lock your bags in your hotel room and store valuables safely in a hotel safe.
