Here we speak to Adepeju Zainab Adeyemi, the founder of The Oza Woman, about her inspiration, craft and process…
What inspires your designs and your creative philosophy?
My creative philosophy at The Oza Woman is inspired by everything I see around me. I also draw inspiration from the type of customers I want to serve. My designs are mainly aimed at creating modest but tastefully finished outfits that fully meet the wishes of our customers.
What are some unique elements or features that set your designs apart from others in the fashion industry?
Some of the distinguishing features that set our designs apart include the careful use of embellishments. We create clean, simple designs and then add embellishments such as appliqués, trimmings and other luxurious elements to create beautiful outfits that emphasize the beauty of the fabric.
How do you incorporate cultural or regional influences into your designs?
Cultural influences are an integral part of our design process, especially for our traditional aso-oke brides. We use traditional woven aso-oke fabric to create luxurious bridal wear, paying tribute to cultural roots and giving brides a special connection to their heritage on their special day.
Can you share some insights about the materials and fabrics you prefer to use in your creations, and why?
We mainly work with bridal fabrics such as luxurious laces, silk, satin and applications. These materials have been selected for their quality and their ability to emphasize the beauty of our designs. In addition, we are open to using customer fabrics, allowing each creation to be a unique expression of their vision.
Are there any specific design techniques or methods that characterize The Oza Woman’s style?
While our approach is adaptable, our signature style focuses on creating designs that are comfortable, elegant and timeless. We want our customers to feel comfortable in our outfits and at the same time show off the beauty of the fabric. That is an important characteristic of our brand.
Can you tell us about a memorable or challenging design project that has had a significant impact on your brand?
One memorable project was making luxury bridal wear using aso-oke fabric. It was challenging but incredibly rewarding, allowing us to incorporate cultural heritage into our designs. It has left a lasting impact on our brand.
How do you adapt to changing fashion trends while staying true to your brand’s identity?
We adapt to trends that match our philosophy of modesty and elegance, where customer satisfaction comes first. While we embrace certain trends, our core identity remains steadfast: offering customers value for their investment and offering beautiful, elegant and comfortable outfits.
What role do customer preferences and feedback play in shaping your design collections?
Customer preferences and feedback come first. We value the opinions of our customers and use their feedback to shape our collections. Our customer-oriented approach ensures that every creation is a reflection of their wishes.
Can you give us a sneak peek at any upcoming designs or collections you have in the pipeline, and what can we expect from them?
Certainly, we have recently released prototypes and samples that have received recognition for their innovation and beauty. Our customers can expect designs that continue our signature blend of elegance and modesty, providing them with an exceptional fashion experience.
Can you also tell us about your future ambitions? We heard that you have plans to expand your business outside Nigeria. Which countries are you considering, and what can we expect from your international efforts?
Thanks for the question. We do indeed want to expand The Oza Woman beyond Nigeria. One of our main targets is the United Kingdom (UK). We plan to open a physical store in the UK to better serve our customers and fashion lovers there. This expansion will provide new opportunities and experiences for our international customers, while staying true to our core philosophy of elegance and modesty. Adepeju zainab Adeyemi
That is an exciting development! We can’t wait to see The Oza Woman make waves in the UK and beyond. Thank you, Adepeju, for this insightful conversation about your brand and your future plans. We wish you every success in your endeavors.
