Fashion model Indira Scott was one of 50,000 people who put on their running shoes this morning and ran the 26.2 miles of the New York City Marathon.
“This is my first marathon,” Scott said Saturday morning, moments after running the day before. “Earlier this year I went to the Voices Gala and learned more about it Brotherhood Sister Sol and all the great initiatives they undertake in the community. It would have really changed my life if I had experienced something like that growing up, so I wanted to know how I could help raise money – that’s when they told me about the marathon.”
Scott has been training since the summer. Friday night she went out for a bit of fun and ‘lots of sweets’, then paid the price for this morning. “When I eat sugar or certain heavier foods, I find it very difficult to run well,” she said with a grimace. So she sticks to a strict meal plan for the rest of the day to ensure she has the right foundation to get through the race.
Next up on her day, a trip to Javits Center to get her race day bib, a “light salad with eggs for protein,” and then a little wellness to get her in the right headspace.
“At the spa I do the sauna, the steam room, the massage, the cold dip – you name it, I’ll do it. I just want to treat my body well so that I don’t feel like I’m putting too much pressure on myself tomorrow. It’s about preparation and treating myself well.”
Dinner of course also plays a role in this. “My last supper is all about balance,” Scott said. “The atmosphere has to be easy, so I think of classic, such as salmon with white rice and spinach. It’s a good balance between vegetables, proteins and carbohydrates.”
“I’ve never been a runner and I don’t like those types of races,” Scott added. “But because it raises the profile of Brotherhood Sister Sol, I’m so excited to do it.”
