Officials announced this week that the Bahamas is expected to welcome 8 million visitors this year, while we already received more than 7.2 million visitors in the first three quarters of 2023which equals the total number of visits for the entire year of 2019.
The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Investment and Aviation has confirmed that 7,209,165 people entered the country by air and sea between January and September 30, 2023.
“The overall aim of our tourism efforts is to continually increase the number of visitors to our destination, year after year,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism Chester Cooper. “Our tourism performance in 2023 was spectacular on two fronts. We have surpassed the 2019 tourism benchmark year in all areas, and our visitor numbers are a resounding indication of a full recovery from the pandemic.”
The number of arrivals via foreign aircraft, which includes both day visits and stopovers, increased by 21% compared to the same period in 2022. In addition, the total number of stopover visitors through September is almost on par with the number of stopover visitors during the corresponding period in 2022 .2019.
Total spending by visitors to the Bahamas is also increasing.
“We are now confident that we will have a record year for the number of tourists, and that is no coincidence,” said Cooper. “We have some of the most attractive cruise destinations in the region, with the new Port of Nassau making waves on social media and across the travel industry.”
In addition to helping the Bahamas tourism sector recover to pre-pandemic levels, the Minister emphasized that the sector’s continued commitment to providing new experiences and exceptional service will propel the country to a significantly greater market presence in the area floats.
For his part, JetBlue celebrated the launch of its First non-stop service between Los Angeles and Nassau, the dynamic capital of the Bahamas.
