3 Wellness Shots To Start Your Day Right, Courtesy Of Nutritionists

Experts agree that there is great value in starting the day right. Yes, “good” looks different for everyone, but it’s the habits that shape our routines (from exercising to simply making the bed) that can make or break the day ahead.

In addition to sleep quality, our diets also have a huge impact on how we feel during the day. Fluctuating blood sugar levels can affect our mood, so a well-balanced breakfast (or fasting, if that works better for you) is crucial, but there are additional nutritional boosters that can help create a healthy mindset before you start the daily grind begins. .

To me, that’s a wellness ‘shot’. I wrote about my new ritual of taking a shot of apple cider vinegar every morning earlier this year. A nutritionist hack to balance blood sugar levels and offset the sugar spike caused by high-carb meals, by taking a few teaspoons in a new shot glass (it’s just not the same in anything else) before I start my day, has helped stave off hunger between meals.

There are also other great photos to try. I’m not talking about the ones you can buy ready-made at the local supermarket chain; always check the label, and many of these contain added sugar and don’t provide many health benefits. Homemade mixtures are much better, and while they don’t undermine your health, they are a fun ritual.

Here are three expert-approved photos worth taking now.

3 wellness shot recipes to try now

Matcha

Coffee lover? Why not try a shot of matcha? “I’m a big believer in matcha because it contains both L-theanine and caffeine,” says nutritionist Eve Kalinik. “L-theanine helps blunt the effects of caffeine, which can help maintain calm and focus, and it doesn’t give the same jittery feeling that some people get from coffee.” It is also high in a catechin antioxidant called EGCG, which provides anti-inflammatory benefits and may support cognitive health.

To reap the many nutritional benefits of the green stuff, it’s essential that you buy a “ceremonial” matcha, which is higher quality than the cooking-grade stuff best used in recipes. “My goal is long Lalani & Coand I enjoy it too Ancient & Brave’s collagen and lion’s mane blendfor additional cognitive benefits.”

Ginger & lemon

In addition to being anti-inflammatory, ginger and lemon can also help promote good digestion, boost hydration, prevent feelings of nausea and boost immunity thanks to their powerful antioxidant properties. The duo is also said to help reduce the risk of heart and liver disease, and although you can draw them together to make an infusion, they make a brilliant, fiery shot, quickly energizing the body and mind.

“I mix a large piece of fresh ginger with some fresh lemon juice and a little water (just enough so it mixes well) and then put it in the fridge – it will keep for a few days,” says Rhian Stephenson, nutritionist and naturopath. and founder of Artah. “In the morning I add a shot of cayenne pepper, which is super stimulating. It is especially beautiful in winter.”

apple cider vinegar

One of the most popular ingredients of the year, apple cider vinegar is great for digestion, blood sugar management and bloating, plus it has antimicrobial properties. ACV containing the ‘mother’ is also said to have probiotic power, meaning a shot of it in the morning can benefit gut health. All you have to do is mix one to two tablespoons with a little water. Be sure to always follow your shot with more water to prevent tooth enamel erosion. I love Bragg’s, which has all kinds of blends, for additional anti-inflammatory benefits.
