One of America’s favorite year-end destinations, Puerto Vallarta continues to rise in popularity on the way to 2024.
Soon, millions of American passport holders will take to the skies for a much-needed vacation. current booking trendsVallarta will be hotter than ever this winter, both literally and figuratively.
So why are a growing number of Americans heading to the Jalisco gem, rather than other coastal towns in Mexico, and what can they expect from the coming season?
Be here 4 reasons that could explain the phenomenon:
A well-developed coastline
For starters, Puerto Vallarta has some of the most beautiful and best equipped beach areas all over the Mexican Pacific.
Unlike other off-path locations along the country’s 1,700 km Pacific coast, PV (as it is known in its short form) features a highly developed beach adjacent to award-winning tourist accommodations, including five-star hotels and guesthouses.
It is one of the best destinations to experience the Mexican coast as a tourist, as resorts typically offer their guests private beach access and a relaxing natural environment, while still maintaining a high quality of service.
This season’s top-rated beach resorts include the Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa, famous for its outdoor pools and state-of-the-art spa amenities, the Playa Los Arcos Hotel Beach Resort & Spa, a casual four-star hotel ad overlooking the bay, and the elegant Grand Miramar Resort.
A charming cultural district
Cultural tourism does one of the fastest growing sub-trends for 2024, and with its historic harbor, romantic Old Town and charming architecture, it’s no wonder Puerto Vallarta is attracting more and more culture seekers every month.
The historic district, known locally as Zona Romanticais a cobbled neighborhood packed with beautiful building facades, quirky cafes opening onto hidden courtyards, niche art galleries and countless eateries serving a wide range of customers.
This wintervisitors can expect the iconic Olas Altas farmers marketone of the largest of its kind in the state of Jalisco, taking place in the Lázaro Cárdenas Park in the district, as well as at the much-celebrated Art & Market Marina Vallarta night market.
Puerto Vallarta may not be as ancient a settlement as Merida in the Yucatán, or even the capital of Jalisco, the Spanish-founded colonial gem Guadalajara, but it is vibrant, colorful and full of postcard-like corners that Instagrammers will enjoy discovering.
The LGBTQ+ capital of Mexico
It’s no secret that PV is Mexico’s unofficial capital for “pink tourism,” but this year local authorities have taken the ball and invested massively in the promotion of LGBTQ-friendly sites, diversifying tourism offerings for the community, and police enforcement in the Romantic Zone, Vallarta’s gay paradise.
LGBTQ+ tourists make up a significant portion of Vallarta’s most loyal customers, as the city is widely known for its numerous gay bars and danceteriasthe burgeoning Pride event and a more liberal attitude compared to much more conservative cities in Mexico.
This week it won the Mexican LGBTQ+ Travel Awards and was crowned Best beach destination of the year while also picking up awards for Hotel Concept of the Year, which went to Almar Resort Luxury LGBT, Restaurant of the Year for trendy Café Des Artistes and Ally of the Year for the Grand Miramar.
As Luis Villaseñor, general manager of the Public Trust for Tourism Promotion and Advertising of Puerto Vallarta, stated, the city receives these awards with “great honor,” and the authority wholeheartedly embraces the title of PV. ‘friendliest’ city in Mexico.
Mexico’s third most popular beach destination
Finally, Puerto Vallarta stands out as the third most popular beach destination in Mexico, beaten at number one by only the almighty Cancun, the Riviera Maya’s leader in bookings, and Los Cabos, Mexico’s spa.
While the former is famous for its mega-resorts and shopping options, and the former is a spa destination, Vallarta lies somewhere in between. a smaller city with a lively atmosphere and youthful demographics, yet far from as chaotic as Cancun, nor as relaxed as Cabo.
It is precisely this unique combination of an excited social scene and thriving nature that makes Vallarta such a trendy getaway for American travelers, not to mention the impressive level of safetygiven the state of Jalisco’s Level 3 designation issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its diverse tourist offering.
This NovemberHotel occupancy is already at a record high of 85 to 95 percent depending on the weekdays, and winter bookings are sure to increase in the coming weeks as the colder months approach and the average American needs it winter sun intensifies.
