As the year quickly draws to a close and travelers look forward to their 2024 adventures, new cities and regions are emerging as Europe’s trendiest hotspots, beckoning visitors with sunny shores, culinary delights and dynamic urban energies.
Mabriana travel information company that focuses on staying ahead of the latest industry trends, recently conducted a survey on the interest modern travelers show in international destinations.
The research took into account more than 380 million social media mentions over a ten-month period in search of the most coveted European destinations of 2024.
These were the findings:
1. Occitanie, France
The beautiful region that graces the coast of southern France is probably best known for its varied landscapes, ranging from the sun-drenched beaches of the Mediterranean to the rugged beauty of the Pyrenees.
Here you can explore the historical wonders of Toulouse, the fairytale landscapes of Carcassone and the vibrant markets of Montpellier.
As travel trends change and evolve, tourists are starting to stay away from overcrowded sights and instead try to enjoy outdoor adventures and breathtaking views, of which Occitanie has plenty.
2. Campania, Italy
Although the name ‘Campania’ may sound unfamiliar to many, the beautiful towns in the region are anything but unknown.
This southern Italian gem is home to Naples, the Amalfi Coast and the archaeological wonders of Pompeii and Herculaneum, to name a few.
Given the many visitors wanting to experience the Insta-famous views of Positano and foodies eager to try pizza in its most authentic form, it’s no wonder that travelers will flock to Campania in the coming year.
3. North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany
While the appeal of southern European escapes is undeniable, those looking for a more vibrant urban experience may have a better time in North Rhine-Westphalia, an imposing German state that’s home to some of the country’s most coveted attractions, including Cologne and Dusseldorf.
City trippers will find this their haven.
Between Cologne’s iconic Cathedral, Düsseldorf’s Mediahaven and Bonn’s unparalleled cultural energy, your North Rhine-Westphalia experience will be anything but boring.
4. Lombardy, Italy
Italy’s second entry on today’s list is famously home to dreamy, iconic Milan, although those who want to experience the country beyond its biggest hotspots will still have the chance to explore the many, many off-the-beaten-path cities in the region that are still full. a kind of old-world charm.
A good middle ground between the bustling streets of Milan and the completely unknown hidden gems that can be found in the area, Lake Como and the historic towns just a short drive away, including Bergamo and Mantua.
However, keep in mind that the streets on this side of Italy are not made for novice drivers: they are narrow, uneven, full of turns, and a large percentage of them are dead ends that you can only get out of if you are a master when reversing.
5. Emilia-Romagna, Italy
If you’re still confused about which country will dominate traveler bookings in 2024, today’s fifth spot on the list might clarify that.
Although Emilia-Romagna is yet another region proudly located in Northern Italy, the landscape, culture and general atmosphere create a whole different world of wonders for travelers to explore.
While there is much to celebrate in this part of the southern European country, what probably attracts tourists here most is the exceptional culinary scene that attracts not only hardcore foodies, but all travelers who want to taste a piece of history.
Bologna, the region’s capital, is often called “La Grassa” (loosely translated as “the fat one”) thanks to the many dishes that have brought the country international fame, from the rich Bolognese sauce to the ionic Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese.
6. Hamburg, Germany
Germany’s second-largest city, located on the imposing River Elbe, expects a notable increase in tourism by 2024, thanks largely to its iconic waterfront, historic Speicherstadt district and avant-garde architecture.
While some may find Hamburg’s gloomy, rainy weather a little off-putting, I can guarantee that once you’ve enjoyed the local nightlife, fascinating cultural events and innovative culinary scene, you’ll feel more relaxed and alive than ever.
7. Lisbon, Portugal
Although last on today’s list, Lisbon is one of the fastest growing travel hubs in the world thanks to its unparalleled blend of old-world elegance and bohemian flair, all neatly presented in a reasonably priced package.
Since there’s no shortage of articles and reports on the enchanting allure of Lisbon (and Portugal), here’s a look at some of the city’s biggest hotspots and attractions.
