You may be short on inspiration when it comes to your beauty, but the festive season is just around the corner. Whether you’re looking for classic elegance or want to experiment, it’s surprisingly easy to add a fun and festive touch to your usual beauty look.
Here, make-up artist and founder of KJH.brand, Katie Jane Hughesand make-up artist Mata Mariellethe pro behind Jourdan Dunn’s party-ready looks, reveal their top tips and techniques.
Glistening lips and more
“It gives Studio 54 and it is so beautiful. Isamaya FFrans has a few shades like metal that are great for this type of look. Use this type of shade over a nude color to make it a bit more ashy – the gray shade in it neutralizes the pink in the lip, making it more nude.” Don’t have any shimmering lip gloss in your makeup bag? Try mixing a clear lip gloss with a glittery highlighter. “Mix the lip gloss with the pigment on the back of your hand and then pat it into your skin. It provides a beautiful glow, and if you use it on your skin, go heavier with it.” As Marielle says: “There’s something very 90s about it, it stands out and isn’t too complicated.”
Dazzling to the eyes
To a Euphoria-like effect that “brings the vibe to the party,” Marielle suggests simply dabbing your fingertip in your favorite pigmented glitter eyeshadow and sweeping it over the eye. “It’s an easy trick because it stands out and stands out.” If you want to up the ante with champagne, gold, pink or cherry red gloss, don’t be afraid to apply some to the cheeks for “an extra pop of color.” For shiny, long-lasting eye shadows with flawless pigment, Marielle recommends the Patrick Ta Multidimensional palette, NYX Cosmetics Ultimate Glow Shotsand the Pat McGrath Labs Mothership II Sublime Eyeshadow Palette.
Blushing overload
“Red, orange and pink are good places when it comes to blush,” says Marielle. To achieve the best results, Marielle says: “Apply the blush directly to the cheeks and use the residue on the brush to dress the tip of the nose.” The best products to try? Refy Cream Blush, Merit Beauty Flush Balm Cream Blush And & other stories Burnt Cinnamon Cheek & Lip Tint. Hughes, meanwhile, encourages experimentation. “Play with placement and don’t be shy about applying a lot, especially if it’s the hero product of the look. If you feel like you’ve applied too much, use a saturated foundation or concealer brush to remove the color. Her personal favorite blush? Tower28’s beach during Happy Hour please.
Bright eyelashes
“A nod to the 80s, but with a modern twist,” says Hughes: colored mascara is the easiest way to get creative with your make-up at Christmas. “I think the YSL Lash Clash mascara in blue is something to try – the pigment is very bold. To make it even more striking, try a white primer underneath, and don’t be afraid to mess up as it leans into the look.’ Mariëlle loves 3INA colored mascaras. “They have pastel colors that look great on dark skin,” she says. “For lighter skin tones I would go for pink, blue and even yellow tones,” says Marielle.
