The introduction of a five year old multiple entry visa for travel and business has been announced by the Indonesian Ministry of Immigration.
This important step is part of Director General of Immigration Silmy Karim’s mission to update Indonesia’s immigration laws for foreigners.
The new D1 visa falls under the category of transit, family visit and tourist visas. The successful applicants can visit Indonesia for a maximum of 60 days at a time over a period of five years.
The information from the Department of Immigration did not specify how accurately the 60-day periods can be used consecutively.
The visa fee of IDR 15,000,000 must be paid online in Indonesian Rupiah to the Ministry of Immigration.
Holders of this visa may participate in meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions. Alternatively, holders can participate in tourism activities and visit friends and relatives in Indonesia.
While in Indonesia, visa holders are required to adhere to all national and local laws and regulations, customs, culture, and have enough money for living expenses.
While this is a viable option for digital nomads whose income is generated online and from activities conducted online or outside Indonesia, visa holders are not allowed to engage in income-generating work or business in Indonesia.
“If you remain in Indonesia during the period of your residence permit, engage in prohibited activities, fail to meet visa requirements and/or fail to comply with Indonesian laws, you may be subject to fines, deportation and/or other faces legal charges,” the spokesperson said. the Ministry of Immigration.
“You are prohibited from selling any goods or services” and “you are prohibited from working in an employment relationship with any individual or company in Indonesia,” they added.
Before applying for a D1 visa, It is important to note that you must provide a valid passport (at least six months), proof of at least USD 2,000 in living expenses, a recent color photo and additional documentation.
The additional paperwork required is “Information, invitations, or correspondence from government agencies or private institutions explaining the relationship with the applicant.”
Alternatively, candidates may submit a “Letter of Declaration from the spouse or parents explaining the family relationship with the applicant and the activities to be carried out in Indonesia, accompanied by a family card/similar document.”
Visitors to Bali who already have connections with Indonesians can ask friends and family to write a letter on their behalf.
Travelers are strongly advised to stay away from fraudulent and scam visa agent services, especially if they do so online, and to only work with visa agents who have personal recommendations.
