There’s nothing wrong with traveling to the behemoths of vacation hotspots, but travelers are doing themselves a disservice by not exploring more of Mexico’s breathtaking coastlines.

One beautiful beach city is creeping up on travelers’ radars, with 2024 being the year this city starts to become more mainstream.

Here are 5 reasons why you should visit this lesser-known Mexican beach town:

An emerging digital nomad hub

As more and more digital nomads look to lesser-known destinations for new experiences, Mazatlan is one of the last places to lose its top-secret status.

Digital nomads fall in love with Mazatlan for a variety of reasons, but a few that need to be highlighted are security, insanely fast mobile internet speeds, and affordability.

Mazatlan may not be the cheapest place in Mexico, but it’s affordable enough to stand out among the mega-popular vacation destinations and see digital nomads filtering in.

The nomad scene will only grow from here on out. We back up that claim when we at Travel Off Path named Mazatlan one of the best digital nomad destinations in the world.

Authentic Mexico

Of course, finding a beautiful beach destination that stays true to its core also has benefits for digital nomads, but all travelers want a taste of authenticity.

colorful buildings in Mazatlan

Many super-popular destinations around the world cater to tourists with shiny new things, but Mazatlan is a mix of old and new that all travelers will appreciate.

Visitors will find charming streets with vibrant historic architecture throughout the city, along with modern high-rise buildings along the picturesque beaches.

Although the prices aren’t what they used to be, locals know it’s worth the price of admission for a feel of the real Mexico.

Whether it’s exploring its colonial-era streets or eating local dishes dating back decades, first-timers will fall in love with this city and see why locals don’t want their cherished secret revealed.

Compared to Los Cabos, for example, where nightly rates are usually in the hundreds to hundreds of dollars per night, Mazatlan is the best beach spot to get the best bang for your buck.

Unfortunately, this will not always be the case. Locals are already seeing rising house prices.

It’s only a matter of time before travel prices skyrocket, making 2024 the perfect time to visit.

Not just any beach destination

Many beachgoers tend to laze around and take life easy, but there’s more to Mazatlan than crashing waves.

Even with about 20 miles of beautiful coastline, there are fun things to do without your toes in the sand.

A new aquarium – the Gran Acuario Mazatlán “Mar de Cortés – recently opened and is the largest in the country.

Uber, or even bizarre golf cart taxis, make it easy to get around to go to the bar, taste Mezcal or sightsee.

Visit ancient cathedrals, stroll through scenic Malecón or even venture into the jungle for ziplining.
