SSince its founding in 2019, Bouqui Glam House (BGH), a luxury fashion brand, has styled a plethora of brides and women with an appetite for high fashion in ensembles that show off unmissable craftsmanship while giving a nod to each customer’s distinct preference.
Immersed in the vibrant tapestry of luxury fashion, the brand was founded by the visionary entrepreneur Bukonla Ambali, has become synonymous with excellence in the city of Lagos, the beating heart of the African fashion landscape. Brides have come to trust that they can be assured of trendy wedding dresses that not only match their vision of perfection, but are also memorable with intricate details that highlight Ambali’s mastery of fashion. Likewise, non-brides are assured of custom pieces with enough character to turn heads and enough staying power to be worn through the seasons.
What is unmistakable about Bouqui Glam House’s designs is how each outfit is tailor-made to fit the wearer like a glove, enhancing each woman’s frame as if it were a work of art. Whether maxi or mini dresses, sleeves or no sleeves, each number sits proudly on the body it was made for, in a way that embraces every unique curve.
All in all, through Bukonla Ambali’s passion for fashion and an unyielding pursuit of distinction, Bouqui Glam House proudly captures and celebrates the essence of femininity, highlighted through intricate designs that perform flawlessly. From ethereal evening gowns to chic cocktail dresses and enchanting bridal wear, each creation is indeed a symphony of elegance and individuality.
Although her journey started with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in agriculture, Bukonla Ambali felt a sense of dissatisfaction that led her to pursue another master’s degree in fashion. In November 2023, she obtained her degree in Fashion Business Management from the prestigious University of Westminster, School of Arts, in London. Bukonla’s passion, determination and unwavering dedication to her craft are truly inspiring.
We caught up with her at W’ Fashion Week to discuss her brand and more.
Here’s our quick chat with Bukolla Ambali, founder of Bouqui Glam House…
What inspired the collection you showed at The W’ Fashion Week 2023?
The September edition of the Won Line Fashion Show in London was the culmination of my passion for sharing my designs on the catwalk. Since it was my first fashion show, I felt very excited. My collection is inspired by the timeless elegance found in minimalist design elements. The concept behind my designs was to celebrate the beauty of clean lines, understated details and a muted color palette.
The collection also celebrated the art of restraint and understatement, demonstrating the power of simplicity in creating a lasting impact. By focusing on impeccable craftsmanship, high-quality fabrics and meticulous attention to detail, I wanted to create garments that exude a sense of effortless sophistication.
The show gave me a sense of satisfaction seeing my designs exhibited in front of a large audience. I am very grateful for this amazing opportunity to make my voice heard and to support and collaborate with other talented people in the fashion industry.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned since starting your label?
My biggest lesson since starting my own label is the importance of perseverance and patience. While pursuing my passion for fashion, I quickly realized that building a successful label takes time, effort and a lot of resilience.
I have learned that setbacks and challenges are inevitable in this industry. From designing collections that don’t get the desired response to facing production delays or struggling to secure collaborations, there are countless obstacles that can hinder progress. However, I have learned to see these obstacles as valuable learning opportunities.
Through perseverance, I have developed the ability to bounce back from disappointments. I have also learned to stay focused on my vision and keep going even when faced with setbacks. It is important to constantly evolve, learn from failures and adapt to the ever-changing fashion landscape.
Ultimately, the biggest lesson I’ve learned is believing in myself and my creative vision. By trusting my instincts and pursuing my unique style, I have been able to stand out in a crowded marketplace and establish an authentic brand identity. By embracing perseverance, patience and self-confidence, I am confident that I will continue to grow as a fashion designer and achieve my goals in the industry.
Bouqui Glam House continues to inspire women across Nigeria and beyond, offering them the opportunity to feel powerful and beautiful through their fashion choices. With Bukola at the helm, this African fashion brand will undoubtedly make its mark on the world stage.
