The start of a new year is the perfect time to try something new haircut, and probably the easiest way to change your look is to opt for bangs. There is a bang for every face, regardless of shape or hair type. Discover five versions to try in 2024.
Curtain fringe
Curtain bangs are a good option not only because they are relatively long and therefore grow out quickly, but also because they flatter every face, regardless of shape. Depending on where the points fall, different parts of the face can be accentuated. Those that extend to the corners of the mouth, as seen on actor Priyanka Chopra, will draw attention to the lips. The cheekbones are emphasized when the bangs reach the tip of the nose (see Emily Ratajkowski).
“Curtain bangs act as a frame for the face,” explains hairstylist Maximilian Meyer. According to Meyer, curtain bangs work best on normal to full hair with a slight wave. If it’s too straight or too fine, he says, it may not have the necessary bounce to complete the look. His best styling tip is to use a round brush when blow-drying.
Wispy bangs
The Y2K revival continues, so it’s no surprise that trending hairstyles from the early ’90s are making their presence felt again. One look that’s currently popular with stars like Nina Dobrev and Suki Waterhouse? Wispy bangs that fall loosely over the face and let your forehead shine through. The advantage of these bangs is that, just like curtain bangs, you can easily grow them out if you want to try a different look.
However, keep in mind that ultra-fine bangs can get greasy quickly. To prevent this, spray some dry shampoo on your hair immediately after washing. The well-known saying that “an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure” is true in this case. Wispy bangs help soften faces that are particularly angular and striking. “This look works for just about any hair texture,” says Meyer.
