Pokagon State Park
For a unique winter adventure, go to Pokagon State Park. It’s about a three-hour drive from Indianapolis, but for good reason, it’s worth the drive. It has a 1,780 meter long and 30 meter high refrigerated toboggan run.
It works with and without snow and is one of the fastest toboggan runs in the entire US. Don’t like fast descents? Do not worry. In Pokagon State Park you can also hike, cross-country ski, snowshoe or ice fish (a permit is required).
Indianapolis
If you like the hustle and bustle of the city, Indianapolis is a must. In winter the streets are usually icy and covered in snow, yet they never sleep.
Grab a drink in one of the many bars, check out the famous ones Winter light (until January 7), or bring your family to experience the true wonders of WinterFaire at the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis.
As in any big city, there are some great ice skating rinks. Stop by Holliday Park Ice Rink, Elevance Health Rink, or both, if you’d like. On the other hand, Eagle Creek Park is an excellent place for cross-country skiing.
Shipshewana
