I
In the days leading up to the end of 2023, we witnessed a slow Lagos with well-rested individuals temporarily putting their work aside but doing everything they could to respond and defeat during year-end events. While matching pajamas were the prominent option for the stay-at-home girls, those who ventured outside struggled in embellished, embroidered and textured ensembles that made a lasting statement.
Check out the festive looks the Lagos bad guys saw during their end-of-year murder…
#1. Transparent cutouts
Actress Sharon Ooja wore a black Udiaghebi cut-out dress with sheer sleeves, a white detachable collar and a train. She paired this with black pumps, pearl earrings, a chic side-parted hairstyle and red lipstick which all synced to form a balanced look that was suitable for any red carpet event. Black, white and a touch of red always remain a total service.
#2. Embellished summaries
Owning this cross-seasonal print in the form of a bodycon dress, pant set or accessories is a fun way to transform any look. Fashion influencer Chioma Ikokwu wore a hand-beaded number from Onalaja, which highlighted her frame. The turtleneck and mesh fabric were a plus for this easy-to-wear dress. Put on a stretch dress without zippers and buttons and save dressing time without sacrificing style.
#3. Lace gold
If you’ve never seen a tall glass of luxury champagne in human form, Mabel Makun is a worthy pictorial representation. The entrepreneur leaned into an all-gold look that accentuated her skin tone. The elaborate headpiece and bejeweled fabric blended seamlessly with her embellished sunglasses. This is one of the striking festive looks that rocked the streets of Lagos.
#4. Feathers in blue
Fashion influencer Chinyere Adogu blinded in one blue-tiful strapless Miscreants dress with three rows of V-shaped feather details from the waist to the ankle. The detail added a vibrant bounce to every step, with matching feathers tucked into her bun for added oomph. Adogu completed the look with strappy blue heels that effortlessly blended into the conversation.
#5. Kimono wrap
It must have been comfortable and chic, because this blue Kimono wrap dress passed the vibe check. Nigerian journalist Lola Ogunnaike attended an art event in Lagos wearing a blue kimono with ruffles at the waist and accented with statement gold accessories. This dress allows for freedom of movement, and if you’re going to dance the night away, it’s an easy hit for all your moves.
#6. Green layers
For the Malaika movie premiere, Sharon Ooja showed up in a halter neck midi dress with tiered hem that unapologetically stole the show. Thanks to this figure, it’s clear that green and silver accents, when put together, are a match made in fashion Heaven. The deep neckline and shortened waistline further added to the appeal of the dress.
#7. A cool jumpsuit
A simple white-black jumpsuit is a must-have in your wardrobe. You’ll score extra points with a wide hem and a creatively stitched bodice. Content creator Ariyiike Owolagba posed for the Gram in a black and white jumpsuit from The Glammaniac. The white top wrapped in the black trousers with a wide hem created a figure-enhancing effect. Owolagba styled the look with understated jewelry and a ruffled mini bag with a beaded handle. This is a suitable semi-formal wedding guest look for days when you’d rather forgo a dress.
