The Mayan Train, the ambitious project of Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, is experiencing its third day ticket sales suspended on the Eticket website after a series of mechanical failures on the Cancún-Palenque route.
These incidents occurred less than two months after the line went into service, raising concerns about the operation of the railway project.
The complications started last Friday when a mechanical failure on the Cancun-Palenque route led to the suspension of service and ticket sales.
Passengers boarding the train at the Cancun airport station en route to Palenque experienced inconveniences around the 9 a.m. departure time.
On Saturday, social media users reported delays and problems on the Cancún-Mérida line, which was scheduled to depart at 7 a.m. The situation was made worse by a 120-minute delay, slow progress to a complete stop and the failure of the air conditioning, requiring the train doors to be opened. Affected passengers were returned to their place of origin on another train.
As a result, ticket sales on the eticket.mx portal were suspended on Saturday. So far there has been no official explanation from authorities about the events.
According to journalists in Cancun, it departed today, Monday, at 7 and 9 a.m., although it is not known whether there were any passengers on board.
