While exploring new places is always exciting, there’s usually a reason why certain countries remain popular with American travelers.
Whether it’s the ease of travel, the language, the sights or the culture, there will always be a few favorites that stand out.
American travelers’ latest favorites have been revealed by the experts at Travel app visited as part of their annual travel report.
They compiled a list of the top 10 countries most visited by Americans in 2023, according to data from their users.
While the results may not be entirely surprising, they certainly are inspiring. Time to plan a trip for 2024!
Mexico
No surprises here: Mexico has long been the top travel destination for Americans.
The beach destinations are unparalleled in Mexico – whether you want to sunbathe on the Riviera Maya, catch waves on the Pacific coast in the state of Oaxaca, or get a taste of the slower pace of life of Mazatlán.
Then there are the cities – with Mexico City leading the way as one of those places you simply have to visit once in your life, especially as a solo traveler.
There’s always talk about safety in Mexico, and of course there are some places to avoid, but with the usual travel precautions, many of the country’s popular locations are safe to visit.
There are plenty of reasons to visit in 2024, not least because the Tren Maya is now operational, making travel around the super-popular Yucatan Peninsula easier and cheaper – allowing us to see some lesser-known hidden gems.
Canada
With captivating cities like Toronto and Vancouver and some of the world’s most stunning landscapes in between, it’s easy to see why Canada attracts travelers in droves.
While there are plenty of flights available to your neighbor to the north, another big advantage for those living in the northern United States is that you can easily drive across the border – giving you the advantage of having your own car if you explore the border. vast wilderness.
Another good reason to consider visiting Canada next year is that tourist visitor numbers have not yet fully recovered from the pandemic, meaning the most popular places will still be slightly less crowded than normal.
France
A serial winner of the title of world’s top tourist destination, France has an endearing appeal that American travelers can’t get enough of.
Paris alone is a great reason to visit this European country thanks to its beautiful architecture, unparalleled art scene and oh-so-chic café culture.
Despite this, you may want to avoid visiting in the summer this year as prices will be high due to the city hosting the Olympics.
Beyond Paris, France has many other destinations worth your time and effort – from the lush Loire Valley, dotted with beautiful castles, to the sparkling seas and luxurious hideaways along the iconic Cote d’Azur.
And with new flights to France being added all the time, there’s really no excuse not to go see what all the fuss is about.
United Kingdom
A weekend in London is pretty hard to beat.
This super diverse and ever-changing city is not only home to some of the world’s most famous sights, but also a place where you can find trendy neighborhoods off the beaten track.
You could spend a few days in London and never go to the same places twice, yet there is still more to discover. It’s no wonder Americans enjoy visiting it so much.
But Britain has much more to offer than just London: the country is full of diverse cities and beautiful landscapes, all within easy reach due to its relatively small size.
Italy
Italy is another country that American travelers will always be fascinated by.
The varied destinations such as Rome, the Amalfi Coast and Venice are always great places to explore, even in winter.
Italy benefits from a very efficient and affordable train network – it’s one of the best ways to get around and see as much of this diverse and historic place as possible.
However, my personal recommendation to visit in Italy is the Mediterranean island of Sardinia.
This gem has some of the best beaches in the country, as well as beautiful and historic towns, impressive canyons and valleys, and a culture that is unique and disconnected from the mainstream of Italy.
The rest of the top 10 from this list is as follows:
- Germany
- Spain
- The Bahamas
- The Netherlands
- Switzerland
