Mexico is every American’s favorite choice for a sunny winter getaway, thanks to its long miles of sandy coast, mild weather and irresistible tropical atmosphere.
However, not all Mexican destinations offer the relaxation they crave after another long, tiring year.
Cancun has luxury resorts and award-winning hospitality, but… it is far from quietVallarta captured our hearts because of its charm Zona Romantica and vibrant social scene, but local beaches can get very crowded, and even peaceful Cabo struggles to keep up increase in tourism recently.
So where can American travelers go? still tourist friendly but relaxed enough to be relaxing?
You should think Todos Santos, one of the top 10 best places to visit in high season:
Why Todos Santos should be on your bucket list
Tripadvisor recently named Todos Santos, a small beach town an hour’s drive up the coast from Cabo San Lucas, one of the best destinations for a February vacation.
February might be the one gloomiest month of the yearbringing rain and dark clouds or snowfall heavily to a number of areas in the United States.
It’s the time when Americans typically feel the urge to escape to sunny Mexico at its strongest and when the budget-conscious tend to travel.
The high season is over, prices fluctuate downwards and the weather is not one bit colder.
In the case of Todos Santos, it ranges from 57 to 78 in February – The nights are only moderately cold – and there are plenty of hours of sunshine to enjoy.
That’s not the only reason why this municipality of 6,485 inhabitants is popular on one of the most popular booking platforms: in case you didn’t know, it is one of the cultural centers of the state of Baja California Sur, and a pueblo magic of the first order.
While Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo excel at hosting luxury travelers who like to spend money on all-inclusive stays, Todos Santos attracts tourists. a different kind of visitor: culture vultures excited to explore Mexico on a deeper level, and small town lovers.
Todos Santos is perfect for relaxing
Forget that overdeveloped stretch of coast, the Americanized beach areas and the glitz and glamor of neighboring Waldorf: Todos Santos has retained much, if not all, of its original Mexican charm.
Yes, there are luxury hotels and spa facilities nearby – after all, this is a stone’s throw from Latin America’s largest wellness center – but these are generally much smaller size wise they fall into the ’boutique’ subcategory and they can be more affordable.
While an overnight stay in Cabo costs an average of $600 at best, tourists can find cheaper stays in three-star hotels in central Todos Santos for just $151 per night this Februaryor if they want to add a touch of luxury to their stay, Guaycura Boutique Hotel is a good choice.
Equipped with a beach club and spa, prices start from an acceptable $494. Higher than the Todos Santos average, but significantly cheaper than Cabo’s rising resort rates.
If you really want to go for it, the latest addition to the city’s growing portfolio is the self-described Todos Santos Boutique Hotel, an ultra-exclusive, luxury listing with 10 rooms Housed in a traditional historic building dating back to the 1890s. Rates range between $995 and $1,295.
As you can see, there is something for every traveler in Todos Santos, regardless of budget. Furthermore, it is an incredibly picturesque town to be located in:
A charming colonial center
It was founded by missionaries in the 18th century and has been a rich cultural tapestrywith a number of Spanish-built churches and a lively colonial center full of colorful houses.
If you’re an active Instagrammer, you’ll want to leave no stone unturned while exploring Todos Santos.
As for its historical value, the last battle of the Mexican-American War, caused by the American annexation of Texas in the 19th century, was fought near the city, making it a mandatory stop on culture-based routes.
That being said, Todos Santos is not well known exclusively for its cultural riches.
It has some hippie shops, quirky art galleriesand pristine beaches for sunbathing and surfing.
Overall, it is remarkably peaceful, with low crime rates, in contrast to the sprawling urban centers.
Whale watching is also an option incredibly popular tour among tourists, with ocean safaris departing daily throughout the winter, when migration trends for the giant marine mammals are higher.
Finally, because Todos Santos is located on the azure Pacific coast of Mexico and not the Caribbean side, it is not affected by sargassum, the brown, smelly seaweed that is already making a comeback already in February to the Mayan coast.
Sargassum is not commonly observed in the Pacific Ocean because it requires warmer water to multiply. Whether you follow Tripadvisor’s advice in February or visit later in the year, you can be sure that these golden sands will. always be spotless.
