A mid-season holiday is the perfect way to get out of that winter mindset and relieve yourself from the stress of everyday life; however, there is a catch.
Prices are skyrocketing and summer travel plans always take priority, leaving those trying to get out of the hometown grind this spring on a pretty tight budget, especially when it comes to flying abroad.
Luckily for us, Europe, one of the world’s most coveted hotspots this time of year, is filled with beautiful yet reasonably priced destinations, granted, as long as you look beyond hugely popular destinations like London or Paris.
In fact, Statistical just came up with its own list of the cheapest European cities to visit this spring based on their daily price index, and these were the 5 places that dominated the rankings:
5. Sarajevo
The capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina is one of Eastern Europe’s most underrated destinations, and I’m sure anyone who’s seen the value for money here will agree.
With average daily costs estimated at just under $50, Sarajevo is the ideal city for travelers who want to experience the region’s rich history and culture on a budget.
Here you can stroll the cobbled streets of the Old Bazaar (also known as Baščaršija), take a free tour of the Latin Bridge and the Eternal Flame, and even take a few breaks in between to try some of the delicious local dishes. dishes, such as gulaš, burek and ćevapi, often for less than what you would pay for a single cup of coffee here in the US.
4. Budapest
Famous for its stunning architecture, thermal baths and impressive nightlife, the “Pearl of the Danube” adds another win to its long list of successes – being voted one of the best budget-friendly destinations in all of Europe.
One thing I liked about visiting Budapest is the fact that even though you pay a lot less than in larger, better known destinations, the sights you will experience here are comparable to what you would see in Budapest. such as Prague or Vienna.
That is why those who would like to take a photo of the typical European city skyline, Budapest will find everything they could wish for and more.
Iconic sights such as Buda Castle, the Fisherman’s Bastion and the Hungarian Parliament Building can be visited completely free or for a modest entrance fee (the most expensive being the latter, for which non-EEA citizens will be charged around $30 per adult).
3. Krakow
Although Krakow is slowly but surely emerging from the shadow of its better-known counterpart Warsaw, its status as a charming, value-for-money destination where tourists can experience the charm of the European city in its most authentic form remains as strong as ever.
By paying just over $47 per day, you will not only stay in one of the many beautiful accommodation options in the Polish city, but you will also be able to see some world-class attractions such as St. Mary’s Church, the Cloth Hall, the Auschwitz-Birkenau, the Wawel Castle and Planty Park.
2. Bucharest
People like to call the Romanian capital ‘the Paris of Eastern Europe’, but the comparison doesn’t do either beautiful city justice: they both have a unique kind of charm.
While the appeal of Paris, along with its historic sights, is undeniable, there is a level of warmth, authenticity and affordability in Bucharest that, dare I say, makes Bucharest better than the famous French capital in some contexts.
Here you will discover that beautiful attractions such as the Romanian Athenaeum, the Lipscani district and Herastrau Park do not have to cost you a fortune.
1. Sofia
With daily costs not even reaching the $40 mark and picture-perfect sights like Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Vitosha Mountain and the National Palace of Culture, Sofia has rightly earned the title as the best, cheapest city to visit in Europe this year. spring.
Bulgaria is particularly beautiful this time of year, as temperatures range between 15°C (59°F) and 20°C (68°F) – otherwise known as perfect spring weather.
