Dreaming of where your spring break vacation could take you? We also…
If you’re struggling to determine where to get your dose of sun and good times, a new study may provide the inspiration you’re looking for.
Travel booking giant Expedia.com examined flight search data from its users for the period between March 5 and April 26 to determine which domestic destinations will be the most popular during this year’s spring break – and the results are fascinating.
The list is extensive and covers all the bases for every kind of spring break vacationer – here are the top 7:
7. Fort Lauderdale, Florida
A quieter and slightly cheaper destination than nearby Miami, Fort Lauderdale is becoming an incredibly popular choice for spring break travelers.
With a 24-mile stretch of beautiful beaches and fantastic restaurants specializing in seafood and Latin American-influenced cuisine, Fort Lauderdale has all the ingredients for a great spring break.
If you want to spend less, many of the attractions are free, including the Anne Kolb Nature Center, the Fort Lauderdale Swap Shop Flea Market, and concerts at Hollywood Beach Broadwalk.
6. Phoenix, Ariz
Last year, a record number of people flew through Phoenix’s Harbor International Airport, proving it’s a firm favorite among travelers.
The weather in Phoenix in the spring is ideal, with temperatures in March usually around 75F and very little precipitation.
There are plenty of great events to help you enjoy a festive atmosphere, such as M3F Festival (March 1-2) and Innings Festival (February 23-24) – both with live music and entertainment.
5. New York, New York
The ‘Big Apple’ will always be one of the most popular domestic destinations all year round.
That was proven in 2023 when a record number of travelers flew through the three major airports serving NYC.
In addition to the unparalleled selection of incredible restaurants that span the price range, New York also has several fun things to enjoy in the spring, like a stroll along the High Line, which will be bursting with floral colors.
4. Los Angeles, California
Los Angeles has the perfect spring break combination of great nightclubs and bars to dance the night away, as well as golden sandy beaches to slowly revive yourself under the warm sun the next day.
There’s almost no end to the excellent hotels you can stay in Los Angeles, as well as some unique spots where you can enjoy city views while sipping a cocktail, like 71Above and Perch LA.
In between parties, Los Angeles offers the opportunity to tour its famous film studios and there are even many miles of walking trails throughout the city to help you get rid of the hangover.
3. Miami, Florida
For good food, culture and nightlife, American cities don’t come much better equipped than Miami.
This beloved Florida destination has broken tourism records over the past year and looks set to remain popular this spring.
One thing to keep in mind in Miami this year, however, is that local authorities have discussed implementing curfews for this year’s spring break between midnight and 6 a.m. in popular locations like South Beach.
This is due to some of the problems the city experienced last year with unruly revelers and crime.
2. Las Vegas, Nevada
After breaking a tourism record in 2023 and hosting the Super Bowl in February, it looks like Las Vegas is an even more exciting place to visit than usual right now.
And with more affordable flights than ever to ‘Sin City’, combined with accommodation prices that appear to have remained slightly lower compared to many other major US destinations, it’s an ideal place to enjoy the post-winter thaw.
1. Orlando, Florida
There really is something for the whole family in Orlando.
From the theme parks to the world-class dining and nightlife, this city seems ready for spring break.
There’s so much more to Orlando than just Disney World, including the opportunity to pick up a bargain at an outlet mall, experience nature up close at one of the many nearby parks and nature reserves, or just relax by the pool in one of the fantastic hotels.
