Fans of recording artist Lorde know when the singer has a new album on the way because she is often seen around town testing out how her album sounds on a range of headphones; from budget versions to ultra-modern, over-the-ear versions to get the real fan experience. The same can be said for designer Reem Acra, who recently presented her Fall 2024 collection both in person and via Zoom. That these shimmering dresses look as amazing in person as they do on a 720-pixel zoom camera is a testament to her craftsmanship.
Her latest collection is inspired by an enchanted forest and uses colors darker than in previous seasons: rich hunting greens, deep burgundy tones and a jet black hue reminiscent of the midnight sky. For those who have rediscovered their love for old school glamor through Feud: Capote vs. the Swans, Acra may soon become their favorite designer. Dramatic dresses with puff sleeves that cinched in at the waist created an enviable hourglass shape on models, while off-the-shoulder silhouettes featured enlarged bow detailing for an added accent. Elsewhere, Acra still incorporated some of the sexier, more youthful styles she’s been leaning into lately; like this season’s closing look; a ‘naked dress’ with sequins to cover whatever needs to be covered, completed with a dramatic scarf for an extra layer of glamour.
