Florida never seems to lose any steam as one of the most visited states in America. It goes without saying that travelers are always looking for sun-drenched getaways, especially when it comes to incredible beaches.
As far as beaches go, Florida is among the best in the country for beach vacations, whether for a day trip or your primary residence.
The shining star of Florida is of course Orlando, home of the world’s most famous theme park.
But not every Florida traveler is trying to make up for lost time and feel like a kid again through the wonders of Disney, so there are plenty more places to enjoy in the Sunshine State.
Heck, even Jacksonville is breaking tourism records. This spring, however, one of the best places to visit is the sunny city Tampa.
Here are 5 reasons why:
New cheap flights
With winter coming to an end, there’s no better time to plan your spring trip. Tampa may be your best bet for a cheap flight, as one of the country’s most popular budget airlines launches a plethora of new flights to Tampa between March and April.
It’s no coincidence that all four cities with new flights have chilly winters, putting travelers in the mood for some fun in the sun.
Spirit Airlines will fly to TPA from the following five cities starting in early March:
- Milwaukee (March 6)
- Kansas City (March 7)
- Memphis (March 7)
- Nashville (March 8)
These routes are nonstop, but travelers from other cities can connect to one of America’s cheapest airlines.
Anticipating a record-breaking spring break
Why all these new flights? Well, spring breakers have to come to Tampa somehow, right? Since a majority of college students are on a budget for the ramen noodle diet, these new flights will be one of the best options for a much-needed spring break.
There are so many great places to enjoy spring break in the coming months, but Tampa is expecting a new record of tourists to flock to their airport and nearby beaches.
Florida is one of the best destinations for a typical spring break, and Tampa is making its own way to attract more tourists to their beaches.
Yes, Tampa is a beach Destination
Tampa proper is not known for its beautiful beaches, like many other Florida cities. However, Tampa is an excellent gateway to some of the best beaches in the US
Nearby Siesta Key has been consistently ranked as one of the best American beaches for years, and it’s only an hour away.
Other small towns south of the city are absolutely beautiful, but perhaps none more so than the picture-perfect ‘island’ of Anna Maria, a little closer than Siesta Key.
The city of Tampa is located on the waterfront and offers beautiful views, but the most valuable beaches are still close by.
You can’t go wrong choosing between Siesta Key, Anna Maria Island, or a handful of incredible beaches in Clearwater, like paradise’s Romantic Island.
Affordable luxury hotels
We all get it: the urge to spend. That’s how expensive beach destinations, like Los Cabos, maintain their popularity.
But sometimes we have to be reasonable, and Tampa is one of those places where you can experience luxury hotels without spending a lot of money.
With the exception of the JW Marriott, which costs about $500 per night, many other luxury hotels are much closer to the $100-200 range.
Not all of them are necessarily beach resorts, but downtown Tampa is also worth a visit.
Spring is perfect for enjoying the outdoors
Tampa may not be world famous like Orlando and Miami, but it is a fun destination with great weather all year round.
Besides looking for Florida’s infamous alligators, Tampa is also perfect for spending your days outdoors in the spring.
Off the beaches, fun activities include bike rentals along the city’s boardwalks, tiki boats, zip lining, dolphin tours, and the region’s expansive state parks. Spring is an excellent time to take advantage of Tampa’s attractions.
