March 4 – A week of street shootings and threats in Cozumel
Cozumel reported shootings for the third time in a week.
Initial reports said those who shot into the air and then ran away were motorcyclists.
A significant threatening letter to Mayor Juanita Alonso Marrufo was left outside the offices of the Subdirectorate of Ecology on Friday. It warned her not to fall for anyone associated with illegal activities.
On February 22, another handwritten threatening note was discovered outside the mayor’s residence.
While these types of threats in open areas on the island are not new, the frequency and detail of these reports about criminals and island crime are increasing.
