The boho-chic destination of Tulum has become a popular beach destination for American travelers. As such, there are a growing number of airlines offering non-stop flights to the recently inaugurated Tulum International Airport (TQO).
Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador inaugurated TQO on December 1, 2023, and it has been operating domestic flights within Mexico since then. Starting in April, operations will change to allow for multiple nonstop flights from U.S. airports.
The airport is designed to handle more than 5.5 million travelers per year and is built to withstand heavy inbound tourist traffic. The airlines that will begin direct flights in March include:
Date | Airline | Towns |
28th of March | US airlines | Charlotte, Miami and Dallas-Fort Worth twice a day |
28th of March | Delta Airlines | Atlanta |
March 31st | United Airlines | Newark, Los Angeles, Houston and Chicago O’Hare |
June | JetBlue | John F. Kennedy from New York |
To be determined | Spirit | Orlando and Fort Lauderdale |
Other international airlines such as Air Canada (from Toronto and Montreal), Discover Airlines (from Frankfurt) and Copa Airlines (Panama) plan to start flights to Tulum in the coming months. Mexico is reportedly in talks with Switzerland and Spain to also launch flights to Tulum.
Tulum is popular among travelers worldwide for its beautiful beaches, impressive Mayan ruins and relaxed bohemian atmosphere. From the relaxed, mystical atmosphere to the otherworldly cenotes, travelers flock to the beach town.
The white sandy beaches and numerous archaeological sites attract visitors who typically travel to Cancun. Add to that jungle adventures and barefoot seafood huts, waterfront yoga sessions at sunrise and the kaleidoscopic sea life and beautiful cobalt blue waters and you’ll realize it’s pretty close to paradise.
Tulum is also just a 35-minute drive from the popular Riviera Maya region, which had the most available and occupied rooms in Mexico in 2023.
