Rihanna is no stranger to vintage rocking. When it comes to her personal style, the singer’s wardrobe is packed to the brim with priceless archival gems – whether they’re Chanel faux fur coats, retro sports sweaters or Galliano-era Dior saddlebags. She is the queen who breathes new life into pieces from decades past and makes them feel completely fresh. Case in point: This weekend in LA, the star hit the town in an all-black look with two vintage gemstones. And they’re both from the ’90s, one of her favorite fashion references.
On Friday night, Rihanna stepped out for dinner wearing a black velvet double-breasted coat with a ruffled trim by Vivienne Westwood. According to @rihannastyleguide, the jacket, and it is terribly Penny Lane – is from the label’s Fall 1992 collection. She paired it with Miaou lace-up pants and Tom Ford accessories like her acetate sunglasses and stilettos. But it was her handbag choice that was another ’90s score: She carried Fendi’s fall 1999 cow-print bag in pink and brown, designed by Karl Lagerfeld. Considering the current country music (and style) revival we’re experiencing thanks to stars like Beyoncé, the Western-style bag is more than appropriate and trendy. But the entire outfit is proof that Rihanna can pick pieces from just about any decade and it will always feel modern and fresh. That’s just the Riri effect.
