Looking for the perfect place for your next European digital nomad adventure?

Portugal is a fascinating country that regularly tops the list as one of Europe’s best hotspots for digital nomads.

According to PortugalResident American participants in the latest show ‘Living in Portugal’ were eager to learn more about life in the country, as well as Portugal’s popular digital nomad program.

But where do they want to live when they arrive?

The answer is the Algarve.

49.9% of fair visitors wanted more information about this region than about all other parts of Portugal.

This is why:

High quality of life

Digital nomads traditionally flock to cities, attracted by their abundance of facilities, but also by other digital nomads.

But Lisbon and Porto have become saturated with digital nomads in recent years, and unfortunately this has meant they are less welcome in the cities than they once were.

Lisbon was once considered the main hub for digital nomads in Portugal. But this popularity has driven up prices and reduced the number of affordable homes in the city.

As residents compete with digital nomads for real estate, many nomads simply choose to move elsewhere.

Instead, those same nomads move to the Algarve, where they can enjoy a much higher quality of life for a comparable budget. Average rental prices in the Algarve are currently 8.2% lower than in Lisbon.

There are many affordable small villages in the Algarve that welcome digital nomads with open arms thanks to the boost they give to local economies.

The Algarve is a particularly attractive location for adventurers who want a relaxed, laid-back lifestyle and want to spend time on the beach or in the great outdoors.

Idyllic beaches and great beach weather

If you feel happier relaxing in the sun, then you will love living in the Algarve.

This is because the temperatures in the Algarve are much warmer than in the rest of Portugal.

A combination of hot, dry summers and mild winters makes this the perfect place for beach lovers.

And when it comes to beaches, you’re spoiled for choice.

The Algarve is enormous. It has an area of 4,997 km2 (1,929 sq mi) and its coastline is approximately 155 km long. This means that the beaches are incredibly diverse.

Some of the very best beaches in the area include Praia da Salema in Salema, located in the Costa Vincentina Natural Park.

This is an idyllic and authentic Portuguese fishing village, and the beach is surrounded by limestone cliffs.

If you like surfing, you should head to the famous waves of Ericeira, which attract adrenaline junkies and digital nomads alike.

For a classic stretch of golden sand, Alvor’s Blue Flag beach is a great option. This beach spot is popular with families, kite surfers and also easily accessible.

With its many cafes and restaurants, this is a great place to take your laptop if you want to work from the beach.

Excellent digital infrastructure

Boring but essential: A key factor for digital nomads is how good the digital infrastructure is in their chosen location.

And the Algarve has an incredibly robust digital infrastructure and an excellent safety record.

You will find reliable fast internet connections here and the number of shared workplaces especially for digital nomads is growing steadily.

Networking events, workshops and meetups are also being organized across the region to ensure digital nomads have the opportunity to meet like-minded world explorers.

Whether you want to work from the comfort of your own apartment, from a desk in a shared workspace, or even enjoy the view from a beachside café, digital nomads in the Algarve are truly spoiled for choice.

It is also worth noting that the Algarve is considered one of the safest regions in Portugal.

Digital nomads are often warned to remain on the lookout for pickpockets, especially when exploring the more touristy areas of the region, but beyond that there are very few safety concerns to consider when living in the Algarve.
