There’s never really a bad time to explore the wonders of Latin America, but if you’re trying to get the most out of your travels and save a little money in the process, timing your visit right can make a world of surprises . difference.
And according to Kayakingthe perfect month to explore three of the region’s most coveted hotspots is fast approaching!
The company’s data-based ‘Best Time To Travel’ tool estimates that May is the ideal time to visit Brazil, Chile and Uruguay due to lower prices, fewer crowds and nice weather. So if you haven’t made reservations yet, you need to act quickly!
And if you don’t believe me, come with me as I guide you through all the benefits that come with exploring these three beautiful countries in May, as well as some rough estimates of what you’ll pay in travel and accommodation if you do do. decide to go on a last-minute trip to Latin America this spring.
Brazil
With temperatures averaging 18°C and countless crowd-free attractions to explore, Brazil is nothing short of a traveler’s paradise in May – not to mention it’s cheaper too!
With flight prices starting at just $172 for the next month, even the most budget-conscious traveler will have a chance to enjoy the iconic sights.
In fact, at the time of writing this article, these are the average prices of round-trip economy tickets from eight of the largest U.S. cities to Brazil (note that while these numbers may change over time, it is difference be not too drastic over the course of a month):
City of departure | Price of the average Economy ticket (May) |
New York | $514 |
Los Angeles | $477 |
Miami | $172 |
Chicago | $692 |
Washington | $462 |
San Francisco | $636 |
Boston | $496 |
Houston | $572 |
And it looks like accommodation will be even cheaper, with many wonderful hotels offering rooms and hearty breakfasts for just under $60 per night.
Chili
Next we have Chile, a country known for its fantastic food, awe-inspiring sights and the fact that it becomes the ultimate budget-friendly heaven in May.
Finding cute little apartments for just over $20 or $30 is not at all uncommon, and for less than $50 you can’t just get into some of the Booking’s highest rated hotelsbut you will probably also get breakfast thrown in the package.
As for airfare, these are some of the lower round-trip ticket prices you can expect to see in May:
City of departure | Price of the average Economy ticket (May) |
New York | $533 |
Los Angeles | $351 |
Miami | $377 |
Chicago | $600 |
Washington | $785 |
San Francisco | $400 |
Boston | $380 |
Houston | $620 |
I also want to quickly mention that if you want to visit Chile during the spring-summer months but still avoid the dreaded wet season, May is your last chance to do so.
Uruguay
Last but not least, we have one of Latin America’s most underrated destinations: Uruguay.
The often overlooked country not only boasts the same beautiful sights you’d expect in, say, Brazil or Argentina, but it’s also one of the safest places you’ll find in the entire region (along with Chile).
However, I would like to point out that travel costs to Uruguay are generally a little higher compared to the other two countries, but one thing remains true: May is the cheapest time to book those tickets.
See how much you can spend on yours depending on where you are:
City of departure | Price of the average Economy ticket (May) |
New York | $650 |
Los Angeles | $890 |
Miami | $520 |
Chicago | $640 |
Washington | $818 |
San Francisco | $871 |
Boston | $930 |
Houston | $1320 |
In addition to offering the lowest airfares, May also promises dreamy spring weather and quiet streets to those quick enough to book their trip in time.
Plus, travel isn’t the only expense you can save on when you plan your visit to Uruguay next month.
A fast Search booking will tell you that there are some great little apartments available to rent from as little as $35, while more traditional, amenity-filled hotels rarely top $120.
