If you’re tired of seeing the same overexposed, crowded sights appearing on “World’s Top Attractions” lists, you’re not alone.
This year especially, travelers are trying more than ever to get off the beaten track and discover hidden gems that travel magazines and online blogs rarely take the time to talk about.
Therefore this new report on the most underrated attractions in the world has provided much-needed guidance to travelers struggling to find that next great place to see.
The list, based on real-life traveler experiences, has picked seven breathtaking sights as the world’s best-kept secrets, and one of them is right here in the US, so keep your eyes peeled.
7. Kiambethu Farm, Kenya
At number 7 is a historic tea plantation in the breathtaking landscape of Kenya.
Now over a century old, this farm invites visitors for guided tours of its lush greenery. The tours include everything from coffee classes and tea tastings to animal sightings and exquisite dining experiences.
So if you are looking for a serene escape from the stresses of home or even the bustling cities you are used to seeing on your travels, Kiambethu Farm is the right place for you.
6. Stetson Mansion, USA
The sole yet proud representative of the United States can be found in the charming city of DeLand, Florida.
This iconic mansion is much more than an impressively beautiful building, of which, let’s face it, the country has many: it is the ultimate testament to Gilded Age extravagance and architectural genius.
The monument took the name of the manufacturer, John B. Stetson, who built the house in 1886, complete with its whimsical dome and colorful tiles – all of which you can now see for just $25.
However, there is one catch: Stetson Mansion is closed until October 31, so you’ll have to wait a while for your tickets.
5. Stone Hall Castle, Canada
If you want to get out of the country but still keep your trip focused on North America, I have two fantastic attractions in store for you.
Stone Hall Castle is located in the rolling hills of Saskatchewan. Although this is one of the most recently built attractions on today’s list, it is just as impressive as its more historically rich counterparts.
That’s because the castle still has an authentic medieval design, complete with stone walls, soaring turrets and even a drawbridge.
4. Cabot Trail, Canada
A few thousand kilometers east of Stone Hall Castle you’ll find the Cabot Trail, which famously stretches along Nova Scotia’s rugged coastline.
If you love breathtaking views, this is the place for you.
With winding cliffs, picturesque fishing villages and untouched nature, the sights you’ll be rewarded with as you drive (or, if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, hike) along this trail are stunning enough to rival any postcard.
3. Al Noor Island, UAE
It’s time to explore a little further away from home, and Al Noor Islan is the perfect destination to do just that.
The jewel of the United Arab Emirates is often overshadowed by its much flashier neighbors, but that doesn’t detract from its otherworldly beauty.
Designed by architectural icon Vladimir Djurovic, this newly developed island features carefully coordinated flowers and winding paths that feel like something out of a novel – definitely worth checking out if you’re ever in the country.
2. Irish National Stud and Gardens, Ireland
Next we have the only European attraction on the list: the beautiful Irish National Stud and Gardens.
Located in the heart of Kildare, this horse breeding farm tells the story of a rich national tradition amid the most awe-inspiring sights – think vibrant gardens, historic paddocks, waterfalls and some of the world’s best horse facilities.
Plus, tours usually cost less than $20 per person!
1. Ahhh Ras Natango Gallery and Garden, Jamaica
Since many of you are planning to explore Jamaica this summer, you’ll be happy to hear that the number 1 spot on today’s list could very well be part of your itinerary.
Nestled in the lush hills overlooking Montego Bay, Ahhh Ras Natango Gallery and Garden promises the perfect blend of art, culture and natural beauty – in short, everything that defines Jamaica itself.
Founded by local artists Ian and Tamika Williams, this hidden gem takes you through some of the most colorful paintings, sculptures and mixed-media creations from the country’s hugely talented artistic community.
Tickets start at $35 per person, and trust me (and too hundreds of other travelers) when I say they are worth every penny!
