Europe is a great place for digital nomads thanks to its rich heritage and range of diverse cultures in a relatively small geographical area.
You will find hospitable digital nomad communities in all corners of Europe.
But where is the easiest place to start?
Time-out magazine has put together a list of the easiest digital nomad visas you can get in Europe.
These are the top 5:
5. Norway
The Norwegian digital nomad visa is valid for a very generous two years and has a relatively low minimum income requirement of €35,179 ($37,665).
Applicants must also obtain their own private health insurance and have proof of self-employment. So easy so far!
So what’s the catch?
The reason Norway doesn’t top the charts is because of a tricky requirement of their digital nomad visa. Each successful applicant must have at least one Norwegian client, with a valid contract for the duration of your visa.
If you can jump through these hoops, then Norway is a great place to live as a digital nomad.
It has one of the fastest Wi-Fi connections in Europe, excellent coffee shops and co-working spaces, and it’s an incredibly beautiful country with plenty of opportunities for outdoor adventures.
4. Greece
The digital nomad visa in Greece allows nomads to live and work in the country for up to 12 months. If you stay for less than 6 months, you do not have to pay tax on your earnings.
You need to earn at least 42,000 euros a year ($44,942) to qualify, but the application process is wonderfully simple.
The visa application process only takes about 30 days from start to finish.
So why should you choose Greece for your digital nomad adventures?
Not only is it breathtakingly beautiful, but it’s also an affordable place to live (for example, the cost of living in Greece is 33% lower than in Britain) and in the larger Greek cities you’ll find welcoming digital nomad communities and plenty of co-working spaces. also spaces.
3. Malta
Malta’s digital nomad visa allows digital nomads to stay in the country for four years.
Unless you transfer your income to a Maltese bank, you won’t have to pay a cent of your income in local taxes for the first twelve months.
You need an annual income of at least 42,000 euros ($44,942) per year, which is one of the higher figures on this list, and you also need employment contracts that show you are an ongoing source of income.
The application process is incredibly simple, but can be time-consuming and take up to five months to complete.
So why is Malta so attractive to digital nomads? It is a beautiful Mediterranean destination that is also an affordable place to live.
And the country’s small size means the pace of life is slow, making it ideal for nomads looking for a relaxed lifestyle.
2. Croatia
Croatia is an incredibly popular destination for digital nomads, and one of the most attractive aspects of this visa is its relatively low income requirements.
You need a monthly salary of 2,539 euros per month ($2,719) to qualify for this visa, and the application process is also simple, as you can apply online without time-consuming face-to-face meetings.
Croatia failed to take first place because these visa applications incur additional costs, such as online administration fees (45 euros/$48) and residence card fees (40 euros/$42). As part of your application you will also need proof that you have arranged accommodation for the duration of your stay.
But there are so many good reasons to choose Croatia as a digital nomad. Croatia has a relaxed lifestyle, nice weather, a rich cultural heritage and many workspaces and cafes aimed at digital nomads.
The internet speed is also excellent here.
