Italy, Turkey and South Africa have embraced the digital nomad trend and offered visas tailored to this target group.
According to these governments, digital nomads will bring entrepreneurial ideas to their countries, which will be valuable for technology and similar sectors.
Let’s see the details and requirements to get a digital nomad visa in these countries.
Italy
Italy’s long-awaited digital nomad visa is finally available to non-EU citizens who “exercise a highly qualified work activity using technological tools that allow them to work remotely, whether as a self-employed person or as an employee or employee of a company, even if he is not in Italy,” the decree reads.
Requirements:
- Eligible candidates must earn €28,000 or more annually.
- Robust health insurance that covers your entire stay.
- Proof of accommodation for the time the visa is valid.
- Proof that you have been a digital nomad or teleworker for more than six months.
- Criminal record.
The visa is valid for one year and can be extended if the applicant meets the same conditions.
Digital nomads must comply with tax laws in Italy before they can apply for this visa. The Italian government will contact the tax office in the applicant’s country of origin regarding taxes.

Turkey
The Republic of Türkiye now offers a digital nomad visa for international remote workers.
The Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism has published the requirements for those interested.
Requirements:
- Candidates must be between 21 and 55 years old.
- A university degree.
- Digital nomads must be employed or self-employed or have a business contract with a foreign company.
- Eligible candidates must earn $36,000 or more per year.
- A valid passport.
Successful applicants will receive a Digital Nomad Identification Certificate. They must then submit this certificate and the rest of the documents to a visa center or consulate in Turkey to obtain the actual visa.

South Africa
South Africa is the latest African country to offer a visa for “highly skilled workers” in the technology sector (some exceptions apply). Nomads are allowed to live and work in this country for a certain period of time.
Requirements:
- Prove that you earn ZAR 1 million per year (approximately $53,000).
- The foreign company you work for may be required to register and comply with the South African PAYE tax system.
- Proof of a rental contract, a rental contract or a hotel booking for the time you will be staying in the country.
- Tailor-made health insurance for digital nomads working abroad.
- An employment contract or other document showing that you are self-employed.
- A valid passport.
According to a decree released in February, visas may be issued for up to three years.
Applicants staying in South Africa for less than six months are not required to pay income tax.
