Some of the best beach destinations in the world can also be the most expensive.
On the other hand, some of the most underrated beaches won’t break the wallet, and best of all, they’re right here in our own backyard.
While Cancun, Los Cabos and a wide selection of Caribbean islands make for a dreamy vacation, vacationers often receive their credit card bill at home and wonder if they should have made other plans.
That’s where TimeOut comes into the picture. They just published a recent publication study revealing the cheapest beach destinations in the US right now for a 6-night stay.
These are the top 5:
5) Sandy Beach – Acadia National Park
What is your budget for a 6 night stay?
Well, Sand Beach in Acadia National Park is worth the price. It’s hard to convince ourselves not to follow the crowd and use our passports, but the US is home to some of the best beaches in the world.
When we think of National Parks, the thought of beaches is sometimes pushed aside when we think of majestic mountains, epic hiking trails and picture-perfect lakes.
Acadia is home to Sand Beach, where travelers can expect to pay just under $800 for a six-night stay.
Sand Beach has it all, as it is located in one of the most underrated states on the east coast of the country, with the backdrop of the mountains you imagined when visiting a National Park.
4) Coast Guard Beach – Cape Cod
Cape Cod is home to more than postcard-worthy lighthouses and dads wearing oversized shorts on golf courses.
Cape Cod can be a budget-friendly getaway with the right plan, and that would be a trip to Coast Guard Beach.
This beautiful beach is managed by the National Park Service, doesn’t discriminate based on your bank account balance, and is surprisingly affordable at just $652.
Visitors love the ample parking and spotting wildlife including birds, seals and even great white sharks!
3) Wrightsville Beach – North Carolina
Is there a state more overlooked than North Carolina?
It’s home to an underrated town in Charlotte, the trendy mountain town of Asheville, the beautiful, spacious beaches of the Outer Banks and now Wrightsville Beach.
Wilmington and Raleigh are two other cities that are often overlooked, and just outside Wilmington is one of the cheapest beach getaways at $637.
Not only that, this beach was also recognized by National Geographic as one of the best surfing spots in the US.
2) Mustang Island State Park – Corpus Christi
Texas in general usually misses a seat at the table when it comes to incredible American beach destinations.
Often overshadowed by the likes of California and Florida, Texas actually has some really nice beaches.
Well…if you don’t count Galveston’s fugly brown water.
The beaches south of Corpus Christi, on the other hand, are often one of the state’s best-kept secrets, between Port Aransas and Padre Island, where you’ll find the super-affordable Mustang Island State Park.
For just $477 – less than $100 per night – those who dream of sun and sand can save big money, while visitors rave about clear water, ample parking and fun camping options to sleep under the stars.
1) Twelvemile Beach – Lake Superior, Michigan
America is a mess when it comes to lakes. Some are dark and filled with flesh-eating monsters, while others are as bright as the Caribbean.
Michigan is perhaps best known for its lakes, with Lake Superior taking the cake, especially at such cheap prices.
Travelers may have the ocean in mind when it comes to booking a beach vacation, but with its scenic views and affordable prices, Twelvemile Beach is sure to change your mind.
Split between Canada and Michigan, Twelvmile Beach is located on the American side and has an impressive 4.7 out of 5 stars on Google, with mentions from recent visitors who like wide open spaces, beautiful blue water and comfortable swimming.
Travelers only need to budget $465 for this lake beach getaway.
