It’s no secret that some of the best beaches in the world command premium prices.

Steep price tags are only part of the equation unless you’re willing to take the road less traveled in search of something new.

As historic and well-documented as Europe may be, there are still hidden gems trickling into the travel world, waiting to be discovered.

What is certainly no secret are the unspoilt islands of Greece, especially Santorini.

Personally, it is one of the most beautiful destinations I have had the pleasure of visiting, despite being touristy.

But it’s time to give Santorini a chance and visit a cheaper beach town reminiscent of Greece in the trendy country of Albania.

Dhermi: the most beautiful seaside resort in Albania

Albania has been on the rise for years and more and more secret hideouts are being revealed.

Now it’s Dhermi’s turn.

When it comes to postcard-perfect coastline, Durres is the most famous name you might recognize.

Not to be a party pooper, but there are many travelers who have torn this quaint port town to shreds for being overhyped, run-down and one of those places where you feel ‘catfished’.

Many agree that Durres should be used as a gateway to the paradise beaches of the Albanian Riviera, the further south you go.

Often referred to as the ‘Maldives of Europe’, Ksamil is no longer held tight to the vest, but you could argue that Dhermi is next in line.

With popularity comes high prices, so there’s no better time to book an epic beach trip.

Unheard of prices for hotels on the beach

As divided as the world has become, if there’s one thing we can all see eye to eye on, it’s that we’re all looking for the perfect beach vacation.

Some of us will go to Mexico, some of us will go to Florida, and some of us will go to the ends of the earth to discover our own little paradise.

Dhermi might just be the right place, and not just for its sheer beauty and laid-back atmosphere, the cost of staying in paradise is staggeringly low to the point where you might feel guilty of theft.

There are European hostels where you sleep next to snoring, smelly strangers that cost $50 a night and that’s the same price you might pay for a beachfront hotel overlooking azure waters.

According to the Daily Express, there are 4-star hotels available in the $50 range for July.

Seeping Greek atmosphere

People from far and wide travel to the island of Greece for a dreamy beach holiday. Greece is known for setting its own pace, which is most comparable to the saying: “It’s a marathon, not a sprint”.

Throughout the country, especially on the islands, you will find a relaxed atmosphere to the highest degree.

An example of this is the first time I went to Crete. I was wandering around the town of Chania looking for breakfast and realized that no one was awake, and even if they were, it was clear that there were no set opening hours.

Dhermi has the same relaxed atmosphere in an environment of beautiful blue water, just like Greece.

Beyond the beautiful waters you will find the Old Town. It seems that just about everywhere there is some variation of an ‘old town’, but there is no overabundance of touristy gift shops here.

What you’ll find is almost identical to a charming Greek village, perfect for a nice walk and a cup of coffee… if the cafe is even open that day.

Reaching Dhermi

Despite being tucked away from a major airport, Dhermi is worth the trip. Albania is building a new airport in another coastal city, Vlore, but it will take some time before it is operational.

It is best to fly to Tirana, nowadays one of the trendiest city trips in Europe.

Public transport goes along the coast, including a stop in Dhermi.

Your other option is the international route by taking a boat from the Greek island of Corfu to Sarande and then hopping aboard a bus.
