In the summer I wear little or no makeup; I think I use the sun as makeup! That said, it is very important to protect your skin from the sun. I like to use Bright Reveal SPF 50 from L’Oréal—it doesn’t leave a white cast, it’s very light and non-greasy, and it works really well under makeup. So if there is an event or something I want to go to, I can wear it under makeup, but also on a daily basis. After Cannes I’m going to take a break where hopefully there will be lots of sun and I’ll definitely pack my SPF 50.

I try to use as little heat as possible on my hair when I’m working, but sometimes this can’t be avoided. I also try to eat very healthy; I eat a lot of protein. There are many ways to get your nutrients and I would say that nutrition is very important for healthy hair. I also fell in love with Elvive from L’Oréal [editor’s note: In the US, try the Water Rinse for something equivalent]. I sometimes put it on when I’m in the sauna and sit on my phone for five minutes. It makes my hair smell so good and the ends feel really shiny and hydrated… and it looks super shiny and healthy.
About what’s in her beach bag
Definitely a book, my sunglasses and some layering – whether that’s a T-shirt or something else – in case the wind blows. I also have water and a little cash, because there is always an ice cream parlor somewhere. Ice cream is one of my favorite things; If I could, I would eat it every day. I love everything from smooth vanilla to cherry and Oreo, literally everything. Whatever the flavor, I crave ice cream.
In her favorite way of exercising
I swear by reformer Pilates – I was introduced to it a few years ago – and I’m a huge runner, I run all the time. For Pilates I go to Alo studios when I’m in the States and it’s one of the best workouts I’ve done in my life. Laura Quinn is one of my trainers there, and she has changed the game for me in terms of how hard I can push my body. It is a very conscious and thoughtful exercise; sometimes it’s the minimal movements that are the most powerful. For women it is great because it connects you to your pelvic floor and gives you full awareness of your body. When there’s a lot of press coming up, or a red carpet, I feel less depressed and generally happier if I exercise a lot. And I feel like the best version of myself.
On her plane beauty routine
I drink a lot of water and I sometimes do a sheet mask or put on some facial spray and moisturizer. I might splash some water on my face in the bathroom. I don’t wear makeup when I travel, so it’s simple. Patches under the eyes also make me feel a little more awake.
About how she deals with jet lag
It’s kind of a niche. It’s obvious to get enough rest, but before my shoot with L’Oréal I had just landed from New York. I went on a crazy trip from London to New York, New York to LA, LA back to New York, so my biological clock was literally turned upside down. As soon as I landed, I went to a banya, an Eastern European tradition. It’s a kind of sauna. I went there and sat in the sauna for three hours and then did an ice bath.
About being the new British spokesperson for L’Oréal
It’s very exciting; my entire team and I were all very excited when I got the call from my agent. Besides all my dreams of becoming an actress, performer and artist, I have always had such a deep passion for fashion, makeup and skin care, so being the face of a brand like L’Oréal means the world. me. I think I may have manifested it when I was a child; I’ve always dreamed of things like this. I feel very happy.
On attending L’Oréal’s Lights on Women’s Worth in Cannes
[Highlighting gender imbalance in the film industry] is important because it directly affects me, as a woman, and other women as well. I am also a woman of color and there are specific experiences that I have and share with other women of color. As much as we would like there to be equality now – and the goal would be to not have to talk about it – we are a generation for whom it is still a problem. We need to highlight and find positive solutions.
