Tulum is one of the popular destinations in the Mexican Caribbean and has its own piece of paradise.
That’s why it’s so exciting Jet blue has started its new non-stop daily flights from New York to Tulum.
Here’s everything you need to know:
What you need to know about this new flight route
The first non-stop Jetblue flights from New York to Tulum landed in Mexico this week. This is exciting news that makes Tulum more accessible than ever.
Jetblue is currently the only airline offering direct nonstop service between Tulum and New York JFK airports.
This will be a daily flight, with the outbound route departing from JFK each morning at 8am and the return route departing from Tulum each afternoon at 12:45pm.
Besides being an easily accessible and affordable route, there’s more good news for travelers looking to get to Tulum from New York.
Jetblue will fly this route with their Airbus A320. For those of us who aren’t airplane nerds, this is good news because this airline has award-winning service and has officially been crowned the plane with the most legroom in coach.
That means you don’t have to upgrade and stretch your budget just because you want to stretch your legs!
Visit the Jetblue website for the latest information and to confirm flight details and prices https://www.jetblue.com/.
JetBlue is expanding in Mexico
Jetblue is working hard to expand its service to Mexico. With the addition of this new route to Tulum, you can now visit 3 destinations in Mexico with the carrier.
They are Tulum, Cancun and Los Cabos.
Jetblue focuses on expanding its international offering and currently serves 40 different international destinations.
It is unlikely that the New York JFK to Tulum route will be their only connection to this fast-growing Mexican hub.
Why choose to visit Tulum?
Tulum is having a moment.
If its popularity grows even faster, Cancun may have to worry about maintaining its status as America’s favorite Mexican destination!
But it’s easy to see why. There are so many incredible reasons to visit Tulum.
Visit the archaeological site of Tulum
The ruins of Tulum in the archaeological zone are definitely worth exploring. Tulum was an incredibly important port city for the Mayan people.
It’s a long walk to get to the ruins from the official parking lot (especially in the blazing sun), but you’ll be rewarded with incredible views if you make the effort.
This is one of the few Mayan sites that directly overlooks the ocean. Although you can no longer walk to the beach from the ruins, experiencing the ruins with the sound of crashing waves in the background is incredible.
Top tip: bring your own reusable water bottle.
Our plastic water bottles were collected at the entrance to the site (no single-use plastic bottles allowed!), and I have never felt so thirsty as I did by the time we finished exploring the ruins! (Here’s where you make stupid mistakes so you don’t have to! 😂)
Incredible food scene
Tulum has a well-deserved reputation for its incredible food scene.
Take a food tour of the city center and discover the street food options, including tacos, stews, and other traditional Mexican dishes.
But if you’re looking for something a little more bougee, there are almost endless options here.
One of the best restaurants in Tulum is Hartford, an off-grid open-air restaurant with some of the best seafood you’ll ever taste.
It’s worth noting that Tulum isn’t the place to be if you’re on a budget. It’s not unusual to spend $20 on a cocktail here, and $40-50 per dish for dinner at a beachside restaurant. That makes for an eye-wateringly expensive dinner for my family of four!
Cool off in beautiful cenotes
My personal favorite thing about Tulum is the chance to cool off in the beautiful cenotes, which are plentiful in this part of Mexico.
Cenotes are underwater sinkholes created by eroded limestone and considered sacred by the Mayan people.
The water in these cenotes is a vibrant turquoise blue thanks to the limestone through which it flows.
They have a magical, almost ethereal feel. The water is cool and clear and perfect for snorkeling and swimming.
The Cenote Zahil-ha is a good choice if you are traveling with children because there are a lot of fish in the water of this open cenote and you can jump in from the side if you are brave.
We took a cenote tour, which meant we got to explore several of these waterholes, and it was truly a highlight that I would recommend to anyone visiting Tulum.
