Internationally recognized for its green and sunny landscapes, incredible history and art legacy, Tuscany offers up to $32,000 to those willing to buy a house and move to a city with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants.
The initiative is known as “Mountain Residence 2024” (Residenzialita in Montagna 2024) And wants to help participants with €10,000 to €30,000 to buy a house and start renovating it.
The main goal is to help revitalize rural villages suffering from a declining population.
Tuscany is looking forward to it “encourage the repopulation and socio-economic revitalization of mountain areas, as opposed to the marginalization of these areas,” say the official site.
The region is prepared to give something away €2,800,000 to attract buyers.
Tuscan cities are participating
This central region of Italy is one of the most popular travel destinations in the world due to its natural beauty and easy access to the rest of the country.
If you are interested in living in magical Tuscany, you have the option to choose from 76 selected cities.
Some cities include Careginineideal for ski enthusiasts due to its privileged geographical location; San Casciano dei Bagni, famous for its relaxing thermal baths; and the birthplace of Michelangelo, Caprese Michelangeloperfect for art lovers.
How to participate
Applicants can be Italian, EU or non-EU citizens. The latter must obtain a residence permit for long-term stay.
Once the grant has been awarded, buyers will need to register as residents of their new town in Tuscany to qualify for the grant. The amount awarded may not exceed half the price of the home.
If interested, you have to act quickly. The application window closes on July 27 at 1:00 PM (local Tuscan time).

Is there a catch?
Given the spirit of the initiative, the only catch is that you must live in the city as your usual residence. The program is not intended for purchasing holiday homes.
