The skincare world is full of suggested anti-wrinkle treatments, but do they work? Actually work or waste money?
Everyone wants to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. That’s why we see so many treatment options and have good news for you. Many of them Doing work – but there are just as many who don’t! In this post, you’ll learn how to recognize effective treatments and avoid the bad ones.
The result is that you can enjoy anti-wrinkle benefits and no longer have to waste money on things that will simply never work!
The most important anti-wrinkle treatments that work
In general, most cosmetic skin care procedures are really effective at removing wrinkles or reducing fine lines. We won’t list them all, but here are three of the most popular:
- Botox injections – Yes, Botox is a legitimately effective treatment for wrinkles. It involves special neurotoxin injections that paralyze the small muscles in your face that are responsible for creating expressions and causing wrinkles. This can prevent you from getting wrinkles on your forehead or in the corners of your eyes.
- Microneedling – Not to be confused with microblading (for your eyebrows). Microneedling uses small needles that pierce your skin. They cause “micro-injuries” that promote the skin’s natural healing mechanism. As such, collagen production and blood flow in the area are increased, improving skin texture and gradually reducing wrinkles after regular treatments.
- Chemical peels – Chemical peels are often seen as a skin resurfacing treatment and are similar to face masks on steroids. The chemicals remain on your face and remove the outer layer of skin. It sounds crazy, but you’ll end up with fresher, smoother skin underneath. Like microneedling, chemical peels are often effective on wrinkles after multiple treatments.
In addition to cosmetic procedures, you can also find some topical treatments to combat wrinkles. These are supplied by all the major skincare brands, so keep an eye out for the following:
- Retinoids – Skin care products with retinol as an active ingredient, it has been proven to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. How? Because these types of retinoids stimulate collagen production. Our skin develops wrinkles because collagen production slows down, so boosting it will have the opposite effect!
- SPF – Applying a SPF on your face will be a great anti-wrinkle treatment as it protects the skin from sun damage. This delays the appearance of wrinkles and is essential when used in combination with other anti-wrinkle treatments to ensure they are as effective as possible!
The anti-wrinkle treatments that don’t work
Simply put, any skin care product that does not contain retinol will not be good at reducing wrinkles. Stay away from products that claim to contain collagen – collagen is too bulky to be absorbed into the skin, so you won’t improve collagen levels this way!
In general, cosmetic treatments are the most effective, but you should look for a treatment that can stimulate collagen production. The more collagen there is in your skin, the firmer and less wrinkled it will be. Hopefully this tells you which treatments to look out for – and which ones you shouldn’t spend money on.
