Planning a summer vacation can get pricey, especially if you haven’t had a chance to get ahead of the curve when it comes to booking plane tickets.

But fortunately for last-minute travelers, I have good news.

Not only is there still time to fly to some of the world’s most beautiful beach destinations, but this coming month is actually the cheapest time of year to travel to five of them, meaning putting off planning a vacation might has paid off.

But what are these places and are they actually worth visiting?

Costa Rica

If you fancy spending a summer in what has just been crowned one of the best beach destinations in the world, then August is hands down the best time to do so.

According to from Skyscanner pricing tool, round-trip flights to Costa Rica will start at just over $150 next month, and while that’s just the Fort Lauderdale – San Jose route, prices at all US airports rarely exceed the $370 mark, so it’s safe to assume that you save a lot of money on travel, wherever you go.

I know I said that waiting until now to book your tickets may have paid off in terms of savings, but if you’re sure you want to spend your summer this year lounging around Malpais and Santa Teresa, then you you’re moving fast – flights booked less than a week in advance can sell for $700+.

Vietnam

If a summer in Costa Rica doesn’t quite pique your interest, you can always set your sights on Asia, and the very first destination you’ll want to consider is none other than Vietnam.

So if you finally want to swim on the fantastic beaches of Da Nang, Hoi An and Nha Trang this summer, you’ll be happy to know that the price of a return ticket in August starts at just over $600. (for comparison, the price of the exact same ticket purchased in January would be over $800).

Thailand

Heading to a place better known for its beaches, Thailand remains a favorite this summer season despite August being part of the country’s rainy season.

If you don’t mind spontaneously changing plans, that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Sure, it can be a challenge to deal with all the heavy rainfall, but these periods are generally short and refreshing, not to mention you can save a lot on airfare – you can keep all travel costs down to $ 660 per person, which is about $300 less than what you would pay during the dry season.

Malaysia

Malaysia is another country that experiences a warm yet humid climate in August, but again, as long as you remain flexible with your plans and choose to explore the west coast of the island (Penang, Langkawi and Pangkor Island) where the rainfall is more moderate, you shouldn’t encounter too many problems.

Again, round-trip tickets will start in the mid-$600s next month, and considering they can be sold for up to $1000 in December.
