This past week, wedding bells tolled, inviting Naija celebrities to do their due diligence in the wardrobe department. By Sharon Ooja and her ‘Odogwu silencer’, Ugo Nwoke Unpleasant Davido and his beautiful wife Chioma, and a number of engagement announcements, it’s officially wedding season. Star-studded events create a fashion show that goes beyond what we are used to. A plethora of looks were served up, with little demand for elaborate ensembles. Each piece had a simplistic look, but one that should not be mistaken as ordinary.

With more and more high-profile weddings on the horizon, the certainty that we’ll see more celebrities peacocking in flamboyant outfits is something to be expected.

Wearing soft metallics with accessories that are indistinguishable from the outfit is art in its individualistic representation – something Nigerian model, Nanfe Jemimah Kefas-Oyeleke is familiar with. Her pleated flowy dress, which exposed her shoulders, made for a sexy release. As she walked into Nollywood actress Sharon Ooja’s ‘Love Unites Us 24’ wedding, this seductive attack was a royal hit. The dress, against her bronze skin, subtle makeup and wavy hair, spoke fluid elegance.

Nigerian designer Tolu Bally posed on Instagram in a black Alexander McQueen suit with silver accents, styled with a draped silver top and a matching Amina Muaddi bag. She hit things up with one big hair doesn’t matter moment, which blended seamlessly with her boss babe’s fashion performance. A tailor-made suit in the right color combined with the right accessories is a recipe for an indisputable victory.

Yellow and ruffles are a perfect marriage of whimsy, positivity and chic. Beverly Osu stunned in a Kome Osalor mini dress for the ‘Love Unites Us 24’ afterparty. The one-sleeve number featured an abundance of ruffles on the sleeve and bottom, which promoted a tell-tale wave. It is not without reason that yellow is the biggest color of summer dresses. While celebrities, high-end fashion designers, and even influencers may have different silhouette preferences, they all seem to agree on this ray of sunshine. Wear this to a wedding after-party: it’s the hottest choice of the season.

#4. Yutee Rone

A blazer with an all-over floral print adds a smart flair to an otherwise normal denim combination. Floral prints are constantly changing in unrelenting variations, including embellished jeans and bold patterned jackets. You dare to put both pieces together for a loud result, like the Nigerian designer Yutee Rone.

The designer took the playful route to a night out in a see-through top, paired with jeans with floral detail. She completed the look with a floral print blazer, a Dolce and Gabbana bag, black pumps and a stack of necklaces. There’s something about pulling off the right look for a girls’ night out full of adventure and style.

Metallics have become a staple of luxury everyday wear with softer renderings and recognizable details. Fashion brand Imad Eduso is known for its sleek textures, razor-sharp tailoring and large sequin embellishment that champions metal fever. Media personality Zainab Balogun has turned an offering from the brand on its head: a tweed mini skirt with large sequin details, a green metallic top with statement sleeves and matching heels – all for the thrill of fashionable drama. The fashionable look was a synchronized textural play that left plenty of room for the imagination.

Amid the fanfare, trust the minimalist designer Andrea Iyamah offers simplistic outfits that balance the gluttonous sound of loud fashion. The designer wore a neutral look from head to toe, with a maxi skirt with side slits and a Copenhagen-inspired bodysuit. Even with the nail polish, she stayed the course. Sparing no drama, neutral fits do justice to the frame and leave no stone unturned in creating the subtle yet remarkable print.

#7. Careful Gabriel

With news about a modest fashion designer, Careful Gabriel getting engaged to a Nigerian gospel musician, Peterson Okopi as it floods our timelines, the buzz about her creations has tripled. A few days ago, the beautiful designer softly launched her new ride, wearing a black dress with a thigh-high slit, an extended white collar and gold buttons fastened at the midriff. As cliché as it may sound to correct a style flaw with a black dress, the downside is that in your heart you never choose basic.
