Amid all the Miami/Vegas/Orlando/New York frenzy, most major stores have criminally overlooked some of America’s most beautiful, yet quiet and understated gems.
However, travelers are still looking for that perfect summer vacation away from the noisy crowds. That’s why a once underrated city in California has recently become one of the trendiest hotspots of the season, with visitor numbers up over 10.3% compared to the same city. time last year.
I’m talking about none other than Ontarioa city that expects almost 118,000 travelers in five days in July.
So, for those of you who have yet to see the allure of this underrated hub, what’s so appealing about it and why should you also plan a trip here before the end of summer?
There is so much to see in Ontario, California
Most people who don’t dare go to places other than the usual megacities fear that they will miss all the beautiful sights and cultural attractions, but that is certainly not the case with Ontario.
Start your day here with a tour of Graber Olive House, an establishment dating from 1894 where you can see how olives are harvested, dried and packaged using age-old methods, and of course you can try some varieties yourself.
You can always go back to the modern era with an extensive shopping spree (or, if you’re on a budget, a shopping spree) at Ontario Mills, home to 200 stores, endless dining and entertainment options, to name just one. few.
After you’ve had a good lunch, head to the Cucamonga-Guasti Regional Park – here you can fish, paddle boat, swim and even use the beautiful picnic areas and water slides.
End the day with a visit to the Ontario Museum of History & Art.
The exhibits here tell you everything you need to know about the fascinating past of not only the city, but the entire surrounding region.
A new way to experience that Californian allure
Those who have been traveling for a while have come to view California hubs as chaotic, expensive affairs that only work for certain types of travel.
And while Ontario shares many qualities with its warm, weathered neighbors, it also promises a new, fresh perspective on the state’s enduring allure.
For starters, while the city is certainly not cheap, it is about 12% cheaper than most of its Californian counterparts. Not to mention the charming downtown area, local wineries, and incredible outdoors that offer a sense of peace and serenity that is hard to find. within a radius of 100,000 miles.
Still, you get that perfect summer weather
One great quality that Ontario does share with other Californian cities is its dreamy summer weather.
With more than 280 days of sunshine per year and temperatures typically ranging from the mid-70s to mid-90s, here you’ll get those warm sunny days and cool but comfortable nights you’ve probably been dreaming about all year.
I’d also like to note that unlike most places with this kind of climate, Ontario isn’t overly humid either, so all the stuffiness and stickiness you think of when you imagine a California retreat goes out the window.
Great location
Much of Ontario’s rising popularity this month can be attributed to the fact that it serves as the ultimate gateway to some of the country’s most coveted destinations.
Think about it, you can still experience places like Los Angeles, Anaheim or Long Beach, while still staying in a new and interesting place that is also friendlier to the wallet – it’s a win-win.
Lots to look forward to this summer
I’m not so sure you’ll want to leave Ontario for too long though, as this is much more than just a tourist destination.
There are many fun stuff scheduled for this summer and that you won’t want to miss, but if your schedule is flexible enough, I recommend that you prioritize the artist tributes held every Wednesday from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Ontario Town Square, as well as the Summer Glow in the Park Festival takes place on August 23.
